Nothing makes a beauty addict’s heartbreak like broken make up. When that beautiful blusher that you spent your hard earned money on shatters, there’s no saving it, right? Wrong. Read on for tips on how to fix broken makeup and a couple of ideas to prevent it from breaking again!

The Alcohol Method

No, this doesn’t mean that you drown your sorrows in gin over that broken compact! Instead, mash up the pieces of your broken compact powder, blush or bronzer in its pan, using a spoon or makeup spatula. Then add a few drops of rubbing alcohol and mix it with the mashed up make up. Smooth it all out so that it resembles its original form, leave it to dry overnight and it’s good as new! Now THAT’s how to fix broken makeup!

Saving Dried Out Make Up

We’ve all had a favourite gel eyeliner or mascara that has dried out on us. But did you know that eye drops could be the solution to this makeup mishap? Put a drop or two of your eye drops or contact lens solution onto your gel liner or into your mascara tube and that dried makeup will be as smooth as the day you bought it!

Burn Your Broken Lipstick!

Don’t worry, I’m not about to make you burn your broken lipstick to a crisp! Prevent Broken Make Up

We can all agree that prevention is better than cure. So how about these ideas to prevent your make up from breaking in the first place? When you’re traveling, place a couple of cotton rounds inside your powder compacts. This gives them cushioning to prevent them from shattering if you drop them. Carrying products that have loose lids or are prone to an opening of their own accord? Use hair ties to hold lids in place. Finally, if you’re worried about carrying products in glass bottles, you can always transfer them to the little plastic travel bottles you can buy from the drugstore or the airport. It’ll give you peace of mind rather than pieces of glass in your make up bag!
