10 Movie Scenes That Make Us Believe in True Love

Normal people and movie characters alike all feel that sense of hopelessness sometimes. That moment where you’re ready to completely throw in the towel and give up on love forever? Well, sometimes all you need to bounce back from that feeling is some epic movie scene kiss where the man says all the right things. I personally dream about having one of these moments all the time. Luckily, it’s easy to pretend you’re in the main characters shoes when you see these epic love story scenes below.

1. 10 Things I Hate About You- “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”

Heath Ledger’s declaration of love in “10 Things I Hate About You” has changed the game for men for decades. He risks total high school embarrassment singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” to his girl in the middle of a football field. Heath Ledger’s character shows absolutely no shame and left girls from all over obsessing over the dream of a man doing the same for her one day. (Although, hopefully he won’t be being paid to like her but that’s beside the point.).

2. Crazy, Stupid, Love- The Graduation

The last 10 minutes of “Crazy, Stupid, Love” make up for the entire hour and a half of ups and downs in all relationships. The Graduation ceremony starts out dreadful and leaves us feeling as sad as ever. In fact, the beginning of this scene seems hopeless until Steve Carell’s character gets up to save his son from utter humiliation in his graduation speech. Steve Carell’s character then proceeds to declare his love to his ex-wife and explains the moment he knew she would be his forever. Sometimes the epic love stories don’t have to end up with the romance rekindling. Sometimes all you need is to say how you feel and let it go.

3. Definitely, Maybe- Mom’s Revealed

At the end of the movie everything comes full circle. We finally understand why Will Hayes had to date all of those women to end up with the perfect one. This scene is guaranteed to remind you that everyone that comes in and out of your life is meant to be there for a reason so that you can be led to the person you’re meant to love. When you finish the movie, you will be left believing in true love all over again, trust me.

4. Five Feet Apart- The Lights

In Five Feet Apart, Stella has a near death experience where Will has to choose if he should risk making her more sick by sharing his illness with her or if he should give her mouth to mouth immediately. He chooses the latter and ends up admitting to the doctors that he might have risked making her even more sick. He realizes this moment is where he needs to let go for her safety and decides to do one more big act of love, show her the “lights”. Their epic goodbye will bring tears to your eyes and remind you that all love has its struggles but it’s worth fighting for.

5. Notting Hill “I’m Just a Girl”

The classic, “Notting Hill” starred Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant who gave us two outstanding performances. I am convinced no scene for the rest of time will compare to the innocence and vulnerability in Julia Roberts looking Hugh Grant in the eyes and saying “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy asking him to love her.” We’ve all felt that before, right?

6. When Harry Met Sally- New Years Eve

When Harry Met Sally is a classic movie with Meg Ryan stealing the show. She plays best friends opposite Billy Crystal and let’s us viewers watch and cringe as the tension builds before these two finally admit they’re meant to be together. We watch as they grow from best friends into soul mates and admit it to themselves. When Harry finally tells Sally he loves her at the end of a New Years Eve party, all our hearts melted.

Call Me By Your Name literally took my breath away the first time I watched it. The first kiss between Elio and Oliver is incredibly beautiful and satisfying. After letting the sexua tension build for what feels like forever, their first kiss sends butterflies rushing through all of our bodies.

8. The Notebook- The Rain Kiss

Personally, any Ryan Gosling film makes me believe in true love but The Notebook is especially good at doing so. After Noah and Allie have been separated for what feels like ages they finally come together to find out their time together was not finished. They have the most epic kiss in the rain that makes anyone want to run and fall in love immediately. This kiss was and still is one of the most epic movie kisses of our century.

9. Titanic- “Open Your Eyes”

Although it’s a scene we all have seen a million times, I’d hope. The scene in Titanic where Jack teaches Rose to feel like she’s flying while simultaneously making her trust him with her life in his hands is absolutely one of the most epic love scenes in history. I want a man to hold me on a boat like that.

10. Sleepless in Seattle- The Empire State Building

Sam and Annie can’t seem to figure out how to make a relationship between the two of them work out at all. When Sam finally heads back to NYC and decides to move on, the couple meets on top of the Empire State Building. This scene never fails to give me chills and remind me of the true love I dream of.
