Wedding Postponed Because Of Coronavirus? Now What?

A wedding day is a day that children dream of their whole life. Imagine being that child dreaming of your wedding, just to learn that once it finally was supposed to happen the wedding was postponed. Tons of engaged couples had to postpone weddings due to the global pandemic. It is unfortunate but had to be done since weddings are typically a large gathering of people. During the global pandemic, it is important to think about the greater good of the community, rather than the individual. If it came down to the wedding postponed as the best option, it is not the end of the world, there are plenty of options, all you need to do is get a little creative.

1. Check With The Wedding Planner, Vendors, And Anyone Else Involved

This is so important to do! Reach out to your wedding planner and the vendors as soon as possible. The earlier the better. Depending on their policies you may be able to get your money back or even reschedule. Reach out to them. Be honest and transparent with them. It is a difficult time for everyone, so who knows what their response might be, but it is worth a shot. Hopefully, the company gives you grace and will refund the money. Many companies have posted statements on their website about their policies for handling coronavirus. Keep in mind that many companies who have previously issued wedding insurance quotes have quit due to the ensuing pandemic.  Do not forget about friends and family involved in the wedding. Your friends and family are probably just as disappointed as you about the cancelation of the wedding. Reach out to them and let them know about the future for the wedding or changes. Do this just so everyone is on the same page, and knows what the game plan is.

2. Decide What The Next Step Is

The correct next step is different for everyone. The next step is based on what your vendors and wedding planning say. If they agree to allow you to reschedule then go with that. Postponing the wedding is never a bad option. This way the bride and groom still get their dream wedding, just later. This is probably the best solution for everyone. During the pandemic, it can be difficult to wait patiently for everything to resume to normal. If waiting is not an option, there is always the option of getting married at a courthouse. This wedding option is small and intimate. It may not be the big wedding you dreamt of, but it is still a good option. Smaller weddings are more intimate. The simpler a wedding is the more focused everyone is on the bride and groom’s love for one another. There is something so sweet about two people in love, who do not need the big flashy wedding. Of course, wanting a big extravagant wedding is perfectly acceptable as well. This pandemic has put a lot into perspective for many people. Sometimes all you need is the simple things in life. If you decide that the best option is to get married in a courthouse, but still want the big celebration that comes along with the wedding, schedule a reception for after the pandemic. This option is like the best of both worlds. Since less money is spent on the wedding ceremony itself, more money can be designated for the reception or the honeymoon. There are different options to check out.

3. Begin Preparing For The Back-Up Plan

If the wedding was canceled or postponed, the next step is to prepare for whatever comes next. If the wedding was postponed, send out a new save the date for attendees. There are plenty of websites that can help make save the date invitations. Online invitations allow the sender to still be cautious during quarantine. They do not need to go meet up with anyone or deliver them. The invitations can be sent quickly via email. Even if the wedding is canceled, send out an email to those who were invited just to update them. Remember your friends and family will understand why you chose to cancel or postpone the wedding, so do not be worried about their responses. In this situation, it is less about money and more about the wellbeing of our community.

4. Schedule An Awesome Honeymoon

Now that flights and hotel rates are so cheap, take this time to schedule an awesome honeymoon. Even if it is a few months out. The flights and hotel rates are cheaper since nobody is traveling. Take advantage of this opportunity! A round trip flight is at record low prices. This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to take the honeymoon of your dreams.

5. Be Grateful

Take this time to reflect on how amazing life is and how truly blessed you are. Be thankful that you can get married. Be thankful that you have found a lifelong partner. At the end of the day, what marriage comes down to is the strong bond between two people. It should not matter where the wedding is at, what the theme is or what was for dinner. The most important part is the special couple’s love. This is all that should matter. In 30 years from now, nobody will remember what the bride’s dress looked like, what the wedding venue looked like, or what the centerpieces at the tables looked like. People will remember how in love two people were if their love is truly special.

In conclusion, take this time to focus on what truly matters most in this situation. Coronavirus may not be fatal to you, but it is to several others. If a delayed wedding day means that someone’s grandparent could be around for another 10 years, it is so worth the sacrifice. The secret is to not let coronavirus ruin your spirit. If you are in good spirits, everything else will fall into place.
