10 Ways To Personalize Your Phone Case

A personalized phone case is a great way to show your true colors! No matter your skill level, there is a crafty way you can personalize your case that will have everyone asking “where’d you get that?!” Here are 10 ways you can spice up a traditional phone case!

1. Photos

Starting easy, use your clear phone case like an ever-changing picture frame! Print out your favorite photos of you and your friends, your dog, or vacation shots and cut to fit! Instant camera photos are also already the perfect fit. I love this idea if you don’t want something permanent since you can always update the photos as you get a new favorite shot. Dress it up a little more with cut-outs of flowers and other fun things to personalize it more!

2. Fancy Paper

Scrapbook paper is another cute way to personalize your case with the potential to switch it up! Go to a craft store and check out the scrapbook section for a huge selection of fun patterned paper. With so much to choose from, you can have a different background whenever you want! Once you have your paper picked out, take your phone case off, and trace around the phone, then use the case to trace out the camera. Cut the shape out and ta-da! You have an easy personalized phone case. The great thing is, you can switch it out whenever you want- think about using Christmas paper during the holidays or beachy paper in the summertime!

3. Stickers

Still going with easy ways to personalize, next up is stickers! There are so many ways to do this, so you don’t have to worry about doing it “wrong.” First, on the outside, you can use one or two big stickers, or a whole bunch of little stickers, collage-style. Or, if you don’t want to stick them all over the case, you can do one or two bigger ones on the inside, keeping the backs on so you can switch them out. I currently have a big sticker that has my favorite Vine quote on it sitting in my phone case. While I know I’ll never get tired of it, it’s nice that I have the option to change it out!

4. Doodles

The final super-easy and temporary idea is to doodle or write quotes or any type of art you’re into onto paper and cut it out (see #2 for the how-to.) Trace out the phone a couple times on a piece of paper and doodle, create word-art, or even write your name and then pick your favorite design to put in your case. If you aren’t super artistic, ask a friend who is and you’ll have all the more reason to show off your case!

5. Ombre

Moving on to a more permanent idea–paint! First, decide if you want the design to be just the flat surface of the case or if you want it to go on the sides as well. If you only want the flat surface painted, tape the sides before you prime the case with white paint. Then, pick out colors that are in similar color families (all blues, purples, or grey to black) and squirt a little of each color on a paper plate. Start with the lightest color and gradually get darker as you move down the case. Finish with a coat of clear to seal it and you are all set, you’ll have a pretty ombre case as a result!

6. Glitter

Is there a thing as too much glitter? Of course not! Especially when it comes to phone cases. You’ll need fine glitter and Mod Podge. Tape the sides of the case and Mod Podge the flat surface, then add glitter! Make sure to do the glitter pouring over a plate because this can get messy! Gently tap the case over the plate to get excess glitter off and add more if desired. Once you have the desired amount of glitter, tap one more time then coat with another layer of Mod Podge to seal and you’re all set to ~sparkle~ If you are feeling ambitious, you can combine #5 and #6 and go for an ombre glitter effect. Just do a small stripe of Mod Podge and work your way down, gradually getting to the darkest colored glitter.

7. Sharpie

If you’re an artist or like a collage, mixed-matched kinda vibe, grab your sharpies and have at it! This is such a fun way to personalize your case and you can get super creative with it. You can either decorate the whole thing at once or keep a marker on you so you can doodle when the inspiration strikes. If you like a community effort, invite your friends to each do a small drawing and you will have a cool collection of art from your friends!

8. Grids

Here’s another painting idea that is perfect if the ombre effect is a little out of your wheelhouse. Grab some tape and do a design. The fun thing with this idea is that you can tape it however you want! After you’ve taped the design you want, have at it with the paint! You can paint each taped section a different color or you can paint the entire phone case a solid color and when you remove the tape, you will have a cool design leftover!

9. Gems

This is a fun and sparkly way to dress up your phone case! Grab a multi-pack of gems and some craft glue and get going! You can do a collection of big ones (see below) or you can get meticulous with an entire case covered in little gems. Just like with the paint, you can be as creative as possible! Try a monochromatic look or, of course, you can always do an ombre!

10. Pressed Flowers

Finally, this may be the most involved DIY, but you won’t be disappointed by the results! Either head outside and pick some flowers or buy some at the store. Press the flowers between some heavy books to flatten them. Take your clear phone case and lay the flowers in the case and pour resin over them to seal the flowers and keep them looking beautiful forever.
