The nineties are renown for a few things: Tamagotchi’s, scrunchies, girl bands, 90’s movies, and of course, 90’s movie quotes. Quite a few of the later got stuck in the public consciousness for a few reasons. Here are 19 of the most iconic 90’s movie quotes that you’re sure to find slipping off the tongue for a long while after.
1. Home Alone
“Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal. And a happy new year.”
“Keep the change, ya filthy animal” is relegated to the second-best quote from Home Alone, because it is less marketable on Christmas sweaters.

“I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”
This quote needs to be printed in full, all the time and every time.
6. Billy Madison
“Mr. Madison, what you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
Some would consider listing any Adam Sandler movie in a best 90’s movie quotes a crime against cinema, let alone two. But, Billy Madison needs including, as no roast will ever be as savage as this.
7. Pulp Fiction
“Just because you are a character doesn’t mean that you have character.”
One of the few lines in the movie without copious swearing.

When you’re hungry, this quote is way too relatable.

“Nobody calls me yellow.”
Wild to think that the writer’s first of all created so many iconic “Nobody calls me chicken” moments, and to only subvert audience expectations later in the series.
16. Groundhog Day
“This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat. What a hype.”
Everything Bill Murray has ever said has been iconic, but feel free to use 90’s movie quotes like this for when your friend drags you to see a bands you don’t like.
17. The Big Lebowski
“Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.”
The Dude really is the chillest guy in film.
“There are certain rules that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie. For instance: 1. You can never have sex. The minute you get a little nookie–you’re as good as gone. Sex always equals death. 2. Never drink or do drugs. The sin factor. It’s an extension of number one. And 3. Never, ever, ever, under any circumstances, say “I’ll be right back.”
These rules are still completely relevant to horror movies.
“Oh, I just think I’m gonna barf… Well, that passed. Now I’m hungry again.”
The only thing more iconic in Fargo than the 90’s movie quotes are the accents.
