This past summer was the experience of a lifetime for many reasons. I spent a month in Sofia, Bulgaria volunteering for a local nonprofit which ended up being a ton of fun but I also had my first threesome there which was honestly a bit more fun and exciting (at least initially). I matched with a guy on Tinder and he initially messaged me and we ended up having a very short-lived conversation. A week later, out of boredom and realizing that he was actually really attractive and I may be missing out on something great, I decided to spark up the conversation again. After casually chatting for a few days, he tells me that he actually has a boyfriend and they were looking to bring in a third person to have a little fun with and hang out some times. After my initial shock, I thought about it for a while and came to the conclusion “why not?”. From there, we planned a day and time to meet up.

The two guys who had been dating for two years ended up being some of the nicest people that I have ever met. When I went over their apartment, they treated me to wine and introduced me to their 3-month-old Weiner dog. This is actually where I envisioned myself and hoped I would end like later in life. They made it a point to make sure that I was completely comfortable with the entire thing and made it clear that I didn’t have to go through with it if I didn’t want to. When things finally moved to the bedroom, I must say that the best part was having the complete attention of not one, but two people. Double the fun!

Things may get messy afterwards

The main criticism of threesomes is that they never work and one party inevitably becomes jealous. I’m here to tell you that this is partially true. The two guys, that we will call Harry and Tom, actually ended up breaking up a couple of weeks after I left the country and went back to the U.S. Harry, post threesome, suggested that we all hang out again which we all agreed to. We all decide to have dinner one night in the city which was a great experience. The day after, Harry messaged me saying that he wanted to see me alone and come over my AirBnB apartment. After telling him that I didn’t think it would be such a great idea, I agree to just have coffee and lunch with him where he confesses how unhappy he had been in his relationship and how he was starting to “fall in love” with me. After an unintentionally romantic evening, we part ways and I go back home.

We end up hanging out a few more times both with and without Tom. Long story short, Tom somehow finds and reads what Harry has been sending me after I returned to the States and messages me telling me to never talk to Harry again and that I was ruining them. After agreeing, I tell Harry that I can’t continuing talking to him and he refuses to just end communication then and there because he is too attached to me. He proceeds to ask me if this was because of something that Tom had messaged me and after admitting that it was, Harry has a talk with Tom and tells me that they decided to break up and pursue other people but remain friends.

Having a threesome was fun at the time but I still haven’t decided if it was worth all of the trouble and drama that followed it. I however, don’t completely blame myself for the breakup of Tom and Harry because it they had mutually decided to bring in a third person knowing the intricacies and fragility of their relationship. Furthermore, it was evident that Harry had been unhappy and his current relationship long before I came. That just goes to show that no matter how perfect things may seem on the exterior, you never know what is going on behind closed doors.
