How To Know If You Should Get Back Together With Your Ex

Relationships have their ups and downs, and sometimes end in disaster; and it may be hard to tell if it's a good idea to get back together with your ex.

As a female, prone to heart break and anguish, it’s important to remember that your ex is your ex for a reason.  That is a key point to remember when considering the latter of moving on.  In the process of making that decision, I have found it is vital to remind yourself how to love YOU more than HIM. So here is how to know if you should get back together with your ex.

1. Someone once told me that he was an Arctic I had lost myself in. I learned how to breathe while being frozen over. I’d learned to enjoy how the frostbite numbed my fingertips and my toes. I think I was just thankful they hadn’t fallen off yet. Someone else had told me that frozen lobsters come back to life when they are thawed, without the frozen air they learn to breathe again.

2. You are the lightning, always competing with the thunder. But darling, the yelling does not make him right. Not ever. Loving publicly doesn’t mean you love him more. The louder you weep does not make your sorrow stronger. So smile. Smile because you are strong enough to give up this terrible fight.

3. When a snake is born with two heads, they fight for food. Similarly, when twins are born conjoined they fight for use of their organs until they are separated. You think that our bodies are meant to fit inside each other, but they are not. You see, soulmate is not synonymous for togetherness. You’ll survive without him, in fact you will thrive.

4. Recognition is the first step, and maybe you aren’t there yet; recognizing that you are fighting saints and an unchanging earth. You sew yourself up with a million apologies, for each time you had put him above your own well being. You blink butterfly kisses into your bloodstream until love radiates through your skin, so you can finally believe that there is only light inside of you. Put your darkest shade of lipstick on and try to kiss him out of every photograph you have of him kissing you. No matter how numb your tongue is from it’s inability to sit still without his mouth.

5. Darling, I pray you realize that love has everything to do with donut cream and courage, nothing but sweet bravery. No more late-night tongue wrestling, with words sweet enough to cause a cavity for a boy who never held them dear. You will spit them out easily. Now, your tongue is bitter, like stale black coffee, and it will take some getting use to. But your tongue is the strongest muscle in your body, and luckily you can find other people to swirl in your words like tiny galaxies. You can find your own belly so soft you will never again cover it in indigestion.

Here’s how to know if you should get back together with your ex. After you learn how to live as yourself again, you just might realize that you are worthy of so much more than you once thought.  As Christina Yang once said, “He is not the sun. You are.” Share your thoughts and experiences in the comment section below!
