5 Ways To Maintain Your Health When You’re Always On The Go

We’re always moving fast, but it feels like the world around us is moving faster. The solution to this problem is usually just another cup of java–but that’s not the healthy answer. So how can you keep up a healthy lifestyle and also keep pace with the everything else in your life? Read below for ways to maintain your health and stay functional in this quick-paced society.

1. Plan your meals for the week

Meal prepping is an important step to commit to if you’re someone who’s always on the go. Sometimes you just don’t have time to plan a meal and cook when you get home, so it’s nice to just pop something in the microwave and have dinner ready. Or maybe you don’t have time to stop for lunch in between class or meetings, so bring a lunch with you that’s easy to eat on the go, like salad, fruit or a protein bar.

2. Drink tons of water

The benefits of meeting your daily water intake goal are endless. It’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to maintain your health. Buy a cute water bottle and take it everywhere with you. When you always have it with you, it holds you accountable for drinking it and refilling it. Nutritionists suggest drinking almost half a gallon of water a day, or eight 8-ounce glasses of water. Some of the benefits include increasing your energy, cleansing out toxins, promoting weight loss, improving your hair and skin and boosting your immune system. Bottoms up!

3. Opt for a salad instead of that juicy burger

Believe it or not, even the simplest changes in your daily routine can have a big impact on your health. If you end up eating out for lunch or dinner, don’t even look at the unhealthy options that’ll be on the menu. Go straight to the green options for salads, wraps or protein based entrees that are low in carbs (and oil!). Drink a glass of water before eating your meal, too, to help you feel a little full and prevent you from eating more than you need to. It’s okay to have leftovers!

4. Exercise when and wherever you can

No matter how busy you are, try your best to make time for daily exercise–or at least every other day. It’s important to get our bodies moving daily to help relieve stress, boost our mood, give us energy, maintain a healthy weight and even improve our memory. Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than usual and go for a quick run or do a 10-minute cardio circuit.

5. Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep at night is essential for maintaining your overall health. If you’re not getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night, you risk feeling sluggish and unproductive the next day. Most of us have probably forgotten what’s even like to feel truly rested because of staying out too late and having to wake up early the next day for work or class. We all love to sleep, so why deprive ourselves of it?
