It's important that you always have the essentials in your gym bag so you are prepared for any situation. Here are the 10 items that you need to have!

A well organised gym bag is essential for a productive work out and post-exercise pamper. However, you want to be lifting weights in the gym, not before. So find a water-resistant gym bag that shows off your style whilst being compact enough to fit in a locker. This list assumes that you are wearing your stylish gym kit already. But if you aren’t, then be sure to pack trainers, socks, a sports bra and your outfit of choice. Here are our 10 essential items that you will need to rock the gym and post-exercise glow.

1. S’well water bottle.

Your water bottle is possibly the most important item in your gym bag. You need to stay hydrated throughout your workout, so be sure to finish at least one bottle of water during your workout. Your skin will thank you for it. Sure you can always buy a drink from the vending machine when you get there, but it is not only more environmentally friendly to re-use your own water bottle, but just think of all the cute designs there are.

2. Gym towel.

The fact is, when you workout hard, you sweat equally hard. The person using the cross trainer after you isn’t going to thank you for your sweaty hand prints. It is always a good idea to take a small towel into the gym with you so that you can mop your brow and the puddles you leave behind, so the next person doesn’t have to. It’s called gym etiquette you sweaty human!

3. Headphones.

We don’t know about you, but listening to our favourite tunes during a workout, motivates us that little bit more. Be sure to always have a pair of headphones in your gym bag. There is nothing worse than reaching for them only to find that you will actually have to talk to people this session, rather than pretending you didn’t hear them calling your name as you walked toward the squat rack.

4. Dry shampoo.

After a workout, your hair won’t be looking it’s best. For a quick fix before you hit the shower, why not spray some dry shampoo into the roots to give your sweaty barnet the sweet smell and lift it needs before facing society. You never know who you may walk into out there!

5. Cleanser.

Your skin will be crying out for a cleanse post-exercise. Give your skin some TLC and sweep some micellar water on a cotton pad over your face to clear out the sweat, toxins and even make up residue. The longer you leave your pores to get clogged, the more likely it is that a pimple will appear in the morning.

6. A little make up.

Putting a small fly kit of make up in your gym bag is always a good idea. Bare is beautiful, but what if you run into your crush post-workout, wouldnt you want fluttery eyelashes and glossy lips? Just pack the necessities such as mascara, BB/CC cream and a tinted lip balm. You can thank us later.

7. Deodrant.

Deciding whether or not to put a deodorant in your gym bag is a no brainer. We are proud of your hard work, but we don’t need a constant reminder with each waft of body odour.

8. Extra socks.

If there is one thing worse than smelly armpits, it’s smelly feet. Laced up in your trainers are a pair of soggy socks just waiting to be thrown in the washing basket. Trust us when we say there is nothing better than placing your bare foot on a cold floor and then incasing them in fresh socks after a workout.

9. A jumper.

It may be warm outside, but letting your muscles get cold after working them to their limits is a sure way to catch a cold, pull a muscle or both. Anyway, with so much great sportswear on the market right now, it would be rude not to treat yourself.

10. Snack.

There is nothing worse than coming out of the gym feeling starving. Tide yourself over with a nutrition bar or a piece of fruit, so that you won’t be tempted to buy that chocolate bar before you get home.
