Reasons why Jameela Jamil has created this years best mental health campaign. Creating body positivity she is paving the way for stronger self love.

Former Radio 1 host Jameela Jamil has always spoken openly on the subject of body positivity and mental health. Spending her career under the media microscope she has also been a victim of fat shaming. When she attended award shows for her radio work, Jameela claims no designers would want to dress her because she was a UK size 12. “The Good Place” actress created the mental health campaign ‘IWeigh’ on Instagram to encourage women to “look beyond the flesh on our bones” and see “how amazing they are.

Shining A Light On Negative Instagram Influencers

Earlier this year, Jameela labelled Kim Kardashian a “terrible and toxic influence on young girls” for a sponsored post promoting appetite suppressing lollipops. She also took to Instagram when Kim’s sister Khloe who was promoting “@flattummyco’s” meal replacement shakes.

Campaigning For A Full Rounded Image

The Campaign isn’t just about “body positivity” but about “life positivity” too, Jameela says the campaign is about how she personally measures herself in “what I did, how I made people feel and how much I enjoyed myself.”

Jameela kickstarted the campaign by “weighing” herself in terms of her “great friends”, “how she loves” her job, how she is “financially independent” and how she “speaks out for women’s rights”.

The account now has over 110,000 followers and inspiring photos of women all over the world “weighing” their self-worth.

Celebrities That Are Showing Their Support

Showing support for the movement, Jameela’s Good Place co-star Kristen Bell has also shared her “weight online” and values her “passion for equality” her “two children who keep me laughing” and “friends who double as family.” Fellow actress Emily Rossum similarly described her “kindness, empathy” and “drive” as “what I ACTUALLY WEIGH”. British Model Charli Howard took part in the movement and shared how she values beating an “eating disorder of over 10 years” and “setting up a charity” above all else.

Paving The Way With Heartfelt Interviews

26, multiple Grammy winner, Sam Smith, opened up to Jameela with his lifelong body image struggles and revealed that he had liposuction at just 12 years old. During the interview Sam said that his body image issues didn’t end with childhood, and that he still struggles with body image issues today. He also spoke up about something that is often overlooked: body image issues in men. Sam said that “Even doing his chat feels kind of weird, because guys don’t speak about this that much on a big scale.”
