With new beauty trends hitting social media and the pages of magazines every day there is an endless stream of nonstop trends taking over the internet. So far, in 2019, there has been a great focus on diversity, inclusion and a combination of boldness and minimalism.
Additionally, more than ever before health has become a very important factor in everyone’s beauty routines with a focus on skincare leading the industry.
From pops of colour to dewiness, from styled hair to hair accessories; we have ranked 10 of 2019’s most popular beauty trends!
10. Statement Lips
The beauty trend coming in at tenth place is statement lips. This one comes with very little surprise, as it has been an on again, off again trend for decades. Statement lips are always bold and unnatural colours that complement a ‘natural’ makeup look; this draws the attention to the centre of your face. The best ways to pull off your statement lips includes glossy lips, bright coloured lips, and dark lips.
9. Gelled Hair
Beauty trends often disappear for a while and then make a comeback – much like our trend coming in at ninth place. Gelled hair made its last comeback in 2017 and 2019 saw it resurface again. Hair gel can be used to give you a sexy, slicked back hair look, give your hair volume and shine and also to enhance your natural curls!
Although, you do want to be careful what product you use and how much as it could end up a greasy disaster. When done well this trend looks incredible!
8. Bright Eyes
2019 has introduced a lot of beauty trends inspired by bold, bright colours and the eyes have not been forgotten about! The latest eye shadow trend pays homage to the seventies and nineties with brightly coloured eye makeup and instead of the eye makeup of recent times it is bolder and less-blended.
7. “Wind-Blown” Hair
Beauty trends don’t always have to be clean and straight and this next trend is certainly neither! Purposefully “wind-blown”, messy hair is another hair trend that has made its way back onto the beauty scene in 2019. Slick, straightened hair has been put on the back burner to make way for this fun, crazy and wild trend.
6. “No Makeup” Makeup
The beauty trend coming in at number 6 has a strong focus on enhancing your natural beauty – a bit of a contrast to the other bright, bold trends of 2019. The “no makeup” makeup look is all about creating a dewy, natural look that doesn’t hide your flaws. Say goodbye to the winged eyeliner and heavy contouring with this trend!
5. Hair Accessories
While this beauty trend only comes in at number 5, it is our favourite and the highest-ranking hair trend of 2019! Hair accessories have taken the beauty world by storm in many different forms. We have oversized hair clips, blinged-out bobby pins, headbands and hair scarves. Hair accessories are the perfect way to create a hairstyle without all of the efforts – and another way to tackle bad hair days without resorting to hats!
4. Monochrome Makeup
Beauty trends can be colourful and simplistic all at the same time and this monochromatic beauty trend has definitely proven this to be true! Monochrome makeup is based on the idea of choosing a single hue for all of the colour in your makeup look, keeping your eyes cheeks and lips all within the same colour range.
3. Virgin Brows
Gone are the days of perfect, Instagram-worthy eyebrows and welcome in the era of virgin brows. Virgin brows are kept natural, un-plucked and are generally brushed up to create and messy, unkempt effect. We love this trend and frankly, as long as we can keep our thick brows happening and never return to the over-plucked tragedy of the early-noughties.
2. Coloured Eyeliner
The second place of these 2019 beauty trends goes to coloured eyeliner. There’s nothing like a pop of colour to simplistically round out a beautiful makeup look. Coloured eyeliner can be applied like traditionally eyeliner, but one of our favourite trends within this trend is applying it thickly on the lower lash line and the outer corners of your lashes.
The number one of 2019’s beauty trends so far is skincare! There has been a switch from full face makeup looks to bare-faced beauty and that can be seen in the emphasis on skincare this year. Following a morning skincare routine complete with a toner and moisturisers gives you a glowing, soft and dewy look that you can confidently wear. We love this health-focused, simple and easy beauty trend.
