10 Events Not To Miss In Teesside This Summer Before The Season Is Over

There is a whole host of events going across Teesside this summer, with something for everyone from music to comedy, to dance and even a big race new to the region, if you’re into fitness and want to challenge yourself! Read on to find out the top 10 events not to miss in Teesside this summer:

Summer Sounds Music Festival – 27^th-28^th July

Gisborough Priory, Guisborough, TS14 6HG

Summer Sounds Musical Festival is the biggest tribute music event in the North East of England. Set in the grounds of English Heritage site Gisborough Priory, this two-day festival is in its sixth year and was attended by more than 4,000 people back in 2016. The first night features a 70s & 80s retro party with tribute bands performing classics by Abba, Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees, George Michael, while Saturday is a night of rock and pop classics from tributes to Coldplay, Robbie Williams, Madness, Lady Gaga and Oasis. In addition to the live music acts, there are licensed bars, stalls, street entertainers and a large firework display on the Saturday night. There is also a BBQ or you can bring your own picnic! Tickets are priced from £22.50 for Friday 27th and £28.50 for Saturday 28^th August. Ages 16+.

Harry Potter: A History of Magic Exhibition – 17^th July- 2^nd September

Dorman Museum, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, TS5 6LA

This magic and folklore exhibition, now open at the Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough, offers a display of magical treasures from the local area and aims to capture the wonder of JK Rowling’s ever popular Harry Potter series. Created in collaboration with The British Library and Teesside Archives, the exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to be welcomed by the ghost of St Nicholas, read magical stories in the Weasley’s sitting room, try on wizarding robes and the sorting hat. You can also do some window shopping in the museum’s very own version of Diagon Alley. Check out the Dorman Museum website for opening times. Admission is free and the exhibition is on for two months, so you’ve no excuse to miss out on this summer event!

Gorilla Beach Festival – 3^rd August

Majuba Beach, Redcar, TS10 5BJ

This popular beach festival features 2 areas of music, an exclusive VIP area, concession village and fun fair for its attendees to enjoy. Taking to the main stage this summer, is Tom Zanetti, Danny T, Charlie Hepworth, Jordan Jefferson and Kane Ayton. Also in attendance, is special guest Mistajam and more performances will take place during the after party on the deck from 11pm until late. Tickets are available from Skiddle.com and are priced from £22.25 up to £38.75 for a combined day and night ticket. There is even a pay monthly scheme to help you cover the cost! Minimum age to attend is 18. This is one of the events not to miss in Teesside!

Billingham International Folklore Festival of World Dance – 11^th-19^th August

Billingham Forum Theatre, Queensway, Billingham, TS23 2LJ

This festival of dance features over 300 international performers from all corners of the world, including companies from Argentina, Japan, France, Mexico, Egypt and the Ukraine. A variety of different dance styles will be showcased, from traditional to ballet to contemporary. There is something for everyone at this diverse event, from youth dance workshops and parades, to special performances on the 11^th and 12^th August at the Forum Theatre. Funded by Arts Council England, Ikebana, The Journey into the Quest of Harmony, offers its audience an artistic journey spread across two of the Forum’s venues – the main theatre and the ice arena and features Dancing on Ice’s very own ice skating star Mark Hanretty. Suitable for all the family, show tickets cost £16 for adults and £8 for children.

Endeavour Festival – 24^th August

Stewart Park, Middlesbrough, TS7 8AR

Endeavour Festival is an all-new pop festival arriving in Stewart Park this summer! Featuring number-one hit singer Rita Ora, X-Factor winner Louisa Johnson and young talent Hannah Jane Lewis, this open-air concert promises an exciting evening of great live music this August bank holiday. In collaboration with Heart Radio, Endeavour Festival will also be attended by R&B girl group M.O. and there will be a variety of food and drink outlets available for concert goers to enjoy. Tickets are priced from £35 – be quick, they’re selling fast and this is definitely one event not to miss in Teesside this summer!

Riverside Rebellion 4 – 25^th August

Westgarth Social Club, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 3EZ

If Endeavour isn’t your scene, this punk rock ‘n’ roll concert offers something a little different to your average pop concert for the bank holiday! The fourth Riverside Rebellion to take place in Teesside, is set to feature famous rock band The Drones, as well as local punk artists Uproar and The Filth, plus many more spread across two floors of music. Across the road from the University in Middlesbrough town centre, this event is easily accessible and affordable, with tickets at £10 in advance and £15 on the door. Why not get your rock on?! This is one of the events not to miss in Teesside!

Stockton Grange Fest – 26^th August

Stockton Cricket Club Field, Grangefield Ground, TS18 4JF

Stockton Grange Music & Gin Festival is an annual event at Stockton Cricket ground which takes place on bank holiday Monday in August. With tasting sessions, demonstrations and unusual gins served by Oscars Gin Bar, this is one for adults only! There is also live music from Baggy Mondays, The Beer Pigs and Piano Man and food provided by The George Pub and Grill. The festival even features a Vegan Food Shack this year! If you’re a gin-lover, this all-day event takes place from 1pm on the 26^th August and tickets start from only £10. Just remember not to have too much fun if you’re back to work on Tuesday! This is one of the events not to miss in Teesside!

Ross Noble Warm Up – 7^th & 8^th September

Voted the 10^th Greatest Stand-Up Comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups in 2007, popular Geordie comic Ross Noble is set to grace the stage at Billingham Forum Theatre in early September. This half marathon is the newest addition to the big Simplyhealth Great North Run weekend, which takes place every year in the Newcastle Gateshead area. Coming to the south of the region for the first time since it began ten years ago, this 10k run offers its finishers an exclusive medal, t-shirt, water bottle, goodie pack, timing chip for accurate results, training plans and various offers and discounts. If you’re up to the challenge, the cost to enter is £22 and there are also mini and junior races for kids to experience crossing the finish line for themselves. Also, don’t miss out on the Great North CityGames Mile, featuring world class athletes competing along the banks of the river Tees. Races start at 9.30am so get yourself down early as you don’t want to miss this brand-new Teesside summer event!

Jurassic Park in Concert – 16^th September

If you’re looking for something a bit different to do one evening, Middlesbrough Town Hall is offering its audiences the chance to watch the ever-popular Jurassic Park in high definition on the big screen. Not only that, but for the 25^th anniversary of this classic film, The Czech National Symphony Orchestra will be performing a live accompaniment to the film. Featuring some of John William’s most iconic musical pieces, this unique performance promises to create an immersive atmosphere which can only be experienced live!
