Romantic music is probably the best-selling music of all time. The genre has such a powerful history and is so emotional that I’ve decided to write a compilation list of the best romantic songs ever. So grab the ice cream and the tissues and snuggle yourself down to think about these songs. These are the songs for best romantic music.

1. Here In My Heart – Al Martino (1952)

This song was the first ever song to be number 1 in the charts. It’s a love song and shows the power of romantic music.

2. Stand By Me – Ben E. King (1961)

This song is one of the most well-known rhythm and blues songs of all time. It has religious structure to it and was originally going to be called ‘Stand By Me Father’.

3. Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis (1961)

To find this song on the internet, all you have to do is type ‘can’t’. It is such a well loved and inspirational song. This song was featured in Presley’s 1961 film Blue Hawaii and when covered by UK Reggae band UB40, it topped both US and UK charts.

4. Baby Love – The Supremes (1964)

When released, Baby Love topped US Billboard charts for just under a month.  The Supremes were so universally loved they had more Motown singles than anyone else in that genre.

5. The Tracks Of My Tears – Covered by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles (1965)

This song was written and produced by Smokey Robinson and has since been covered many times, creating amazing press and chart success for those releasing it. The guitarist Marv Tarplin was responsible for the title words, with the rest of the band working around those words to create the masterpiece. His intro on guitar is also one of the most famous of all time.

This song holds three Grammys for Otis Redding, one for Hall of Fame, one for Best R&B song, and one for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

This song is one of the most covered songs ever. Recently it was covered for the John Lewis Christmas advert in 2010 by Ellie Goulding which gave the song a new lease of life.

Written by George Michael when he was just 17, the pop star had no idea why it was such a big hit. The song was number one in 25 countries and was the hit that launched Michael’s solo career. This is one of the songs for best romantic music.

10. Eternal Flame – The Bangles (1988)

This song was released in a single in 1988 and became number 1 in 9 countries making it The Bangles’ most successful songs ever. It was so successful that it made The Bangles the third all-female group to score multiple number one hits.

This song was originally written by Prince, but made a huge success by Sinead O’Connor in 1990 with the release of it’s music video onto MTV.

Originally written in 1971 by Labi Siffre, Madness recorded the song for the film the Tall Guy. However, the song was not a success at this point and rose slowly to success over the next years.

13. I Will Always Love You – Covered by Whitney Houston (1992)

This song was from the soundtrack of the hit film ‘The Bodyguard’ and is estimated to be the 10th best selling single from the 1990s in the UK. Whitney Houston’s version of the song is a cover of Dolly Parton’s country version from 1973. This is one of the songs for best romantic music.
