12 Themes For Halloween Parties You Have To Try in 2021

Halloween parties are a lot of fun, especially when they are themed. There are so many different themes you can try for your party, too, not just costume-themed parties. You can have food-themed parties, decorating themed parties, basically any kind of party you want.

Halloween is the best holiday of the year, or it’s my favorite holiday. I just love the decorations and the costumes everyone wears. Being able to dress crazy and not have any judge you is amazing. My friends and I at school have had some pretty weird parties for Halloween. It’s the only holiday they helped me decorate the dorm for. Here are some of the themed parties I’ve wanted to try for a while now but haven’t had a chance to yet!

1. Murder Mystery

Murder mysteries are really fun Halloween parties. There are some really cool ways you can incorporate a murder mystery into your Halloween party, so it would be a lot of fun if you were really creative with it.

You can make one of your guests the murderer and one of your guests the victim. And make the little tombstones for your guests be edible, that way it makes the party fun and it provides food for the guests. You can also make clues throughout the party so that your guests have to figure out who is the murderer, and give your victim something fun to do so they don’t get bored. And you could ‘kill off’ more guests the longer it takes for them to figure out who did it.

2. Spooky Skeleton Scavenger Hunt

This is more of a kids’ party because of what they have to do, but if you think hard enough, there is probably a way for adults to have fun with this party as well. It would also be more fun outdoors than it is indoors, but you could make either one work.

There are two ways to do this. You can set it up like an archaeological dig, and bury the pieces of a toy skeleton in the dirt. The guests have to dig it up and put it back together. Or you could hide the pieces around the house and have the guests find them that way. Either way, it is going to be a fun party, and you can make it slightly more interesting than that if you think it’s too boring. You’ll enjoy it no matter how you set the party up.

3. Backyard Horror Movie Night

You can set your backyard (or your living room if you have a white wall big enough) up like a drive-in movie theater. You can set up a screen using a sheet or the side of your house, and you can use a projector to show the movies on your big screen. This is a good one for this Halloween, especially since the pandemic is still going on.

You can choose whatever scary movie you want to watch, instead of what movie the theaters are playing. There are also several different kinds of foods that would be good for the outdoor movie. You can make anything Halloween-related, which is really fun. Drive-ins are always nice to go to, so having one in your own backyard would be even nicer. If the movie gets too scary, you can always switch it to a less scary movie without needing to go anywhere.

4. Haunted Gingerbread House Decorating Party

Gingerbread houses are fun to make, but people usually associate them with Christmas. They are not for one holiday only. There are many different types you can make, so feel free to make this gingerbread house however you want to.

They are also a lot of fun to eat, so you can use them as the main dessert for your party. Have a contest to see who makes the best gingerbread house at the party, and have a prize for them at the end. This can be fun and really competitive, depending on who you invited to the party. This would be a great party to host a few days before Halloween itself to get you and your guests in the spirit. Have fun with this idea, though, and see what you can do!

5. Fortune-Telling Party

This themed party can be a lot of fun, especially when everyone takes it seriously. You can get someone to come to your party and be the fortune teller, or you can be it yourself. It depends on how good you are at telling people their fortunes.

I am not good at this at all. It’s kind of confusing, so you have to be careful. But some people don’t believe in things like this anyway, so it doesn’t matter as much to them. As long as you can fake it, how you do it doesn’t matter. It would make the party more fun if you set up a room away from the main party to tell everyone’s fortune, unless you want everyone to see it at the same time. In which case, have fun with the party idea!

6. Cocktail Making Contest

Drinking isn’t always associated with Halloween, unless you have an adults-only party. This would be a really good party theme for them. Ask each guest to bring a special ingredient for their cocktail and have a friendly competition on Halloween.

Contests are always fun, and having them be cocktail contests is even more fun. This will be a really fun idea for a Halloween party, especially if you have everyone dress up in costumes as well. You can provide the alcohol and the glasses, and have them bring their special ingredients. This will start out as a friendly competition, but there will always be that one person who becomes really competitive, so be careful of them.

7. Pumpkin Spice Party

Pumpkin spice is such a huge part of the fall that you should always have a pumpkin spice party. Halloween falls in the middle of the fall, too, which is the perfect time to try out your pumpkin cooking skills. Have fun and be creative with this party idea.

There are so many things you can make during this party, too. You can have pie, ice cream, coffee, drinks, anything you want can be pumpkin flavored, especially if you love pumpkin as much as I do. I wait all year for pumpkin spice coffees to come back, so this is the perfect party idea. You can do so much with this theme, too. You can decorate pumpkins and place them all over the house, you can have color themes, too. It’s a really good idea.

8. Spooky Supper Party

This is another theme you can do a lot with. Everything needs to be dark-colored, like all blacks and grays and browns, and you should eat by candlelight. It will make everything ten times creepier than if the lights were all on.

There are a lot of Halloween-themed foods you can make for this party, too. You can make mummy dogs, vampire cocktails, eyeball pasta, and bloody cheesecake. You can make this party as scary or as silly as you want to make it, depending on who’s coming. If it’s a kids’ party, hide their stuffed animals in plain sight to make it scarier in a silly way. If it’s an adult party, make everything a little spookier by eating in the dark.

9. Zombie Prom

Prom was fun and all, but make this zombie prom the best night ever! Listen to only Halloween music, and have everyone come dressed as zombies. It would be the perfect way to celebrate such a scary night, with the land of the dead.

To make it even more fun, have a contest to see who comes dressed as the scariest or creepiest looking zombie of the party. You can serve alcoholic beverages without getting in trouble, which is always a good thing. Everyone will remember this night for a long time, unlike your actual prom. The food at this party will also be better, because it will all be Halloween-themed. And it will all be finger food, which makes dancing easier.

10. Camp Crystal Lake Party

I’ve never seen Friday the Thirteenth so everything I’m writing, I did a lot of research to find. This would be a good party idea if you plan on having the party outside because there are a lot of good camping ideas that wouldn’t work the greatest inside.

You can set up a lot of old lanterns, like the ones in the movie. You can also fill a wooden boat up with ice and use it to store drinks for the party. Have fun outside with some camping activities, like making s’mores, archery competitions, or even lawn bowling. You can create Camp Crystal Lake t-shirts that you can give all of your guests so everyone matches. You can do a lot with this theme, and I hope you have fun with this idea.

11. Dia de los Muertos Party

This holiday is honoring loved ones who have passed. The decor is usually sugar skulls, bright floral displays, and candlelit lighting. This is a good party idea if you plan to have your family at your party, that way you can actually honor your loved ones.

This is a day of celebrating, not mourning, celebrated in Mexico and other countries around the world. It is associated with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. This is more of a celebration than a party, so there is no specific type of food that would work better for this. Just use the decorations that are commonly associated with the holiday, and you are basically celebrating correctly. This is a nice theme and it would be fun to celebrate like this.

12. Pumpkin Carving Party

This is one of my favorite ideas. Carving pumpkins is the best Halloween activity because it gets you in the Halloween spirit, and it gives you decorations for your house. This is a fun idea for a kids’ party, too, because they also have some really good ideas.

You can have this party the week before Halloween or even on Halloween. It doesn’t matter when you have it because it’s never the wrong time to celebrate Halloween. You can also turn this into a friendly competition because it’s a great way to get more creative with your ideas. Sometimes people are more creative when they are competing for something, even if it’s just competing for the chance to say they are a winner.
