Most of the time, when people plan their spring break, they usually choose beach destination. It’s understandable that after a less than warm and fairly stressful first half of the semester, you’d want to get away to some place sandy and hot. However, not everyone loves the beach. Some people don’t like the heat, or the feeling of sand stuck to every inch of their body. Well, if you’re one of those people then keep reading for some spring break ides that are nowhere near the beach.
1. Visit a national park
National parks are basically the opposite of beaches and visiting one is the perfect spring break trip idea. Instead of being surrounded by gritty sand, you’re surrounded by all the beauty nature as to offer. If you’re an outdoorsy type of person, then this is a great trip for you. Pick from a number of national parks the U.S. has to offer and set out on an adventure.
2. Enjoy an affordable staycation
Maybe you can’t afford to travel for your spring break, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a beach-free spring break trip. Instead of traveling, you can make a great trip in your hometown. To make the staycation feel more like a trip, you can rent an Airbnb for the week. Then spend the week exploring your city. Are there any new restaurants that you haven’t tried yet? Well, now’s the time to find out what’s good on their menu. Maybe there’s a new exhibit at your favorite museum for you to check out. There so many things you can do in your own area to make spring break great, and there was no beach involved.
3. Take a road trip
Road trips are another great spring break trip idea. Grab some friends and pick out a designated location, map the route, choose locations to visit along the way, create a driver schedule, and then head out. Make this trip even better by creating a great playlist and bringing yummy snacks. The road trip can be as long or short as you like, and the best part is your destination won’t be a beach.
4. Visit a historical city
There’s a common misconception that historical cities are old and boring, and while most of them are old, not all of them are boring. There are many historical cities that look just as lively as non-historic cities. They have great restaurants, exciting entertainment, and lively people. All you have to do is a little bit of research to figure out which on piques your interest.
5. Hit the slopes
Some people really love the snow, and if you’re one of those people then this is the perfect beach-free spring break trip idea for you. Take a trip to a ski resort and enjoy the slopes for a few days.
6. Give back on a service trip
Most schools offer service trips during spring break for their students. This a great spring break trip idea because you’ll be giving back and visiting a new area at the same time. While some trips take place in areas that do have a beach, you don’t have to go if you don’t want to. During your own time you could grab some friends and explore a different area of your service trip location.
7. Be a kid again at a theme park
Theme parks are always a great spring break trip idea, but especially for those who don’t like the beach. That’s because you’ll spend so much time enjoying rides that you won’t be worried about a beach. Even if there happens to be a beach nearby, you’ll be too busy eating theme park food, riding rides, or taking pictures with the theme park characters.
