15 Signs You Were Spoiled As A Child

mm
College is definitely a major adjustment, which can be more difficult on some people than others; especially those of us that were spoiled as a child.

College is the place where you discover yourself and your passions. While you are doing that, you have to get used to living by yourself and stop being your parents’ little kid. However it is harder for some of us to get used to the college life; and by ‘some of us’ I mean those of us that were spoiled throughout our entire lives… #richkidsofuiuc

1. Using public transportation around campus.

You have no idea how to use public transportation; nor you want to learn how.

2. The insignificance of the dining halls.

You have never really checked which dining halls have good food, nor did you choose your housing based on it. There are always the restaurants, it is not like you are going to be eating at a dining hall…?

3. You have way to much stuff to bring with you to the campus.

You have no idea how are you going to carry that much stuff with you to the campus, especially if you are an international student (your parents already joked about hiring an overseas shipping container).

4. You don’t do chores, nor clean your own room.

You have never come home to an untidy room, and no idea how to maintain that in your dorm room; so you already searched for maid services.

5. Washing and ironing is not your forte.

You have no idea how are you going to wash and iron your own clothes; and you’ve already wondered if you can just use dry-cleaning (then gave up on it, it is way too expensive).

6. Decorating is a need, not a luxury.

Yellow and brown are not your colors, so you spend way too much time thinking how you are going to be decorating your room, and what wall paper and bed-board you want to use.

7. Campus is way too big to travel on foot, and bicycles are not even an option.

You joked about not going to your 8am classes if your parents don’t buy you a car when you hit the campus. (Were you really joking though?)

8. Your hair dresser was more than a friend to you.

You have to find a good hair dresser (and a good brow artist and nail salon if you are a girl) all over again; it is like finding a soul mate all over again…

9. You have commitments.

You are halfway into your laser hair removal and have no idea what to do when you hit the campus; no way you are starting all over again!!

10. Treat yo self.

You will have to find a new favourite fancy restaurant that is meant to use just for celebration purposes, but you hit at least 3 times a week because TREAT YO SELF!

11. Money is not a concern (at least not yours).

When deciding on the housing, you just checked the location and the pictures of the dorms, you didn’t really check out the prices. That is for grown ups to worry about.

12. It is time to change your computer when a new color or a model comes out.

Since university is a fresh start, you need a fresh computer. How cute are those rose gold MacBooks?

13. You are used to living in the middle of the action; you don’t do urban life.

The campus is in the middle of nowhere, and you have no idea how are you going to live without 10 fancy restaurants and 5 shopping malls

 14. Working while you are studying is for “work and travel” programs, not for college.

You didn’t really think about having a part time job; university is already time consuming and hard, while studying, procrastinating, and partying (the order of those can change).

15. You don’t understand whatever it is that your friends keep complaining about called a ‘student loan’.

You haven’t given any thought to tuition while choosing the university you are going to attend, you just went with the rankings and qualities of the school

These are 15 signs you were spoiled as a child. In conclusion, college will be hard for all of us, just a little bit harder for some. As for me, you will probably be seeing me freezing in the middle of the street, trying to find a good dining hall. Still, college is awesome, and I know I will love it!
