Life growing up with only brothers means a lot more sporting events, ESPN and wrestling, and a lot less Barbie’s, Disney Princess movies, and dress up. You grew up at the baseball fields cheering on your brothers, instead of at the dance studio learning how to be a ballerina. You were always surrounded by boys and were forced to learn how to play sports in case you were needed as an extra team member. You grew up in a very unique environment, where a majority of your life was focused on your brothers and their events, while you tried to teach yourself how to be girly. If you are the only girl in your family, here are 15 signs that you can relate to by growing up with all brothers.
1.Every day was spent at the baseball fields / basketball courts / football fields
Whenever your brothers had a baseball, basketball or football game, you were forced to go to the game whether you wanted to or not. Your mom would probably pack up a few of your favorite toys and snacks to help keep you occupied during the game. You had your other girl friends that would go to the game and you would meet up in your little spot at the back of the field to play with Barbie’s during the game. As you got older and grew out of the toy phase, you started to actually watch the games, learn how the sports worked, and became your brother’s biggest fans!
2.You grew up learning how to play sports instead of taking dance classes
Your parents didn’t have time to juggle your brother’s sports games while taking you to dance class, so you just didn’t get to do it. Instead, you learned how to play ALL of the sports. You most likely taught yourself how to play sports from all of the games you had to watch, and eventually became a pro at it! All of the boys were jealous of your skills whenever you had to play sports during PE classes in middle and high school. You go girl!
3.You were forced to watch sporting events instead of Disney Princess movies
You NEVER got to pick what show to watch because you were always outnumbered and your brothers always wanted to watch ESPN, Star Wars, or The Avengers. Whenever your brothers left the room, you tried to change the channel to a Disney Princess movie, but were forced to turn it off as soon as your brothers came back.
4.You had to play Barbies alone
You always had to play with Barbies alone because your brothers would never, ever even think about playing with you. If your brothers did come in the room to ‘see what you were doing,’ they would most likely mess up your game and take your Barbies just to annoy you. Then, you were forced to play some game with them with their toy cars.
5.You learned how to be tough and wrestle
Playing with your brothers meant lots of competitions, like wrestling. There would be huge wrestling matches in the play room, and you had to be tough because you never got any mercy for being a girl! You learned how to be tough and master wrestling, and can know take down anyone if you ever need too.
6.You loved to borrow your brother’s jackets and shirts
You didn’t need to have a boyfriend to borrow comfy jackets and shirts because you could just borrow your brother’s instead! Some of these jackets and flannels got you so many compliments from friends, and you embarrassingly told them that they were your brothers.
7.You had the biggest crushes on your older brother’s friends
Whenever your older brother’s made new friends, you quickly fell in love with them. You would get so excited every time your brother invited his cute friends over, and would quickly say hi and run away as soon as they got to the house. It would make your day if your brother’s friend smiled at you or asked you a question. This would also make all of your friends super jealous and you loved it!
8.Your friends always fell in love with your brothers
Your close friends always had the biggest crushes on your brothers and you never approved of it. You would always have to listen to your friends talking about how cute your brothers are, how perfect they are, and how they can’t wait to date them one day. It would get extremely annoying and you would pray that it would never workout between them. You have to keep your friends and siblings separate!
9.You critique all of the girls that your brothers date
Let’s face it, every time your brothers have a new girl friend, you immediately start to critique her and question her intentions. You do some real investigation to find out everything you can about her and her life. You have to know if she is a nice, sweet girl because she may end up being your sister one day and you want to make sure she is a perfect fit for the fam!
10.You never really learned how to put on makeup, curl your hair, or pick out a cute outfit
You never had an older sister to help teach you how to put on makeup, how to curl your hair, or how to put together a cute outfit. Sometimes when your mom had a second to breath, she would try to help you, but it was never the same as learning from an older sister or friend. You had to watch Youtube videos and learn from trial and error, until you eventually figured it out!
11.You get outnumbered in family decisions
You got to the point where you stopped giving your opinion during family decisions, like where to eat for dinner or where to go on vacation, because you were always outnumbered and your vote never mattered. There was no way around it and no way to escape it, so you just started to say you didn’t care. It happens every single time!
12.You have more guy friends than girl friends
You always found that your friend circle included way more guys than girls, mainly because girls are way too dramatic and intimidating. You were so used to hanging out with your brothers all day that it was just easier to make friends with all of the guys. You always impressed them with your knowledge on sports and they loved to hangout with you!
13.Using the Only Girl card in your favor to get what you want
Whenever you wanted to do something but your parents were hesistant, you always said, “But Daaaaad, I need some girl time. I want to see my friends!” Works every time!
14.You sometimes wish you had an older sister
You always dreamed of having the perfect older sister that would be your best friend forever. The sister that would take your shopping, drive you to school, let you borrow her clothes, give you the best advice, and spend every second of the day together. You always wanted an older sister to look up to and aspire to be just like her one day. Although you never got the experienece, you can thank you mom for stepping in as an older sister when you needed it!
15.At the end of the day, you love your brothers and wouldn’t have wanted to grow up any other way
Even though you will always dream of having a sister, you know that you wouldn’t be the person that you are today without your brothers. They taught you how to be strong, independent and to stand up for yourself. They taught you how to play and understand sports. They gave you comic relief when you needed it most and were there to put a smile on your face even when they weren’t trying. You may have lived a life full of ESPN and sporting events, and not much quality girl time, but you know having a life full of brothers is such a blessing and you wouldn’t trade your life for anything!
