The Office has been off the air for six years, and yet it’s more popular now than ever. For nine years, The Office was on your TV screens and now it’s all over your Netflix history. If you’re a big fanatic of the show, then you probably already know everything there is to know about The Office, but here we go.
It runs in the family:
– In season 6, episode 18, Pam (Jenna Fisher) gives birth to her first child, Cecelia (Cece). Pam struggles to breastfeed Cece, so a lactation consultant is brought in to help Pam. The lactation consultant is played by Jenna Fisher’s real-life husband, Lee Kirk.
-Carol Stills appears in several episodes as Michael Scott’s realtor and girlfriend. In real life, Carol Stills (Nancy Carrell) is Steve Carrell’s wife.
-Originally, Phyllis Smith (Phyllis) was a casting associate for The Office, but producers decided that she was a good fit for the show, so they created the role of Phyllis Vance specifically for her.
-Producers originally wanted John Krasinski to play the role of Dwight Schrute, but John insisted that he’d make a much better Jim Halpert. After John read for the role of Jim, he was casted as Jim Halpert.
-When Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski first met during casting, they had an immediate connection. When Jenna Fischer was asked by producers who her favorite Jim was, she said John Krasinski, and when John Krasinski was asked who his favorite Pam was, he said Jenna Fischer.
-Initially, Amy Poehler was considered for the role of Jan Levinson, but producers decided to keep her in mind for another show called “Parks and Recreation”.
-Kate Flannery wasn’t cast the role of Meredith Palmer until the second episode.
-John Krasinski wore a wig for the majority of season three, because he had to shave his head for a role outside of The Office.
-During the show, they appeared to despise each other, but in real life, Jenna Fischer and Angela (Angela Kinsey) are great friends. Jenna Fischer is also the godmother of one of Kinsey’s children.
-B.J. Novak (Ryan Howard) and Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor) were best friends and even dated on and off in real life.
-In the pilot episode, Dwight is seen humming the song, The Little Drummer Boy at his desk. Several times throughout the series, Angela mentions that her favorite song is The Little Drummer Boy.
-Only four of the main characters share the same first names of the actors who play them: Phyllis (Phyllis Smith), Angela (Angela Kinsey), Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton) and Oscar (Oscar Nunez).
-Steve Carrell didn’t tell anyone that he was going to participate in the show’s finale, because he wanted it to be the ultimate surprise. During the final table reading, Creed (Creed Bratton) read Steve Carrell’s lines, so even the cast was surprised to see the return of Michael Scott.
-In season 8, the writers wanted for Pam’s character to be pregnant with her second child, but ironically, Jenna Fischer was pregnant in real life.
-Actor, Rainn Wilson (Dwight Shrute) created a blog called, Shrute Farm Beets for his character Dwight.
-The computers on set were real and connected to the internet. Cast members revealed that they would often surf the web while filming.
-During Season 6, Episode 7 (“Koi Pond”), all the actors changed their computer screensavers to fish.
