Found yourself in Los Angeles and craving a cup of coffee or a cappuccino? Luckily for you, there are dozens of great coffee joints located all over the city. Here are my top eight recommendations for you to check out next time you’re in LA.
1. Intelligentsia Coffee
Intelligentsia is Venice’s staple hipster coffee shop. Located in the heart of Venice on Abbot Kinney, it’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee, get some work done, people watch, or all of the above. With skylight ceilings, wooden benches and tables, and grey concrete floors, Intelligentsia has a distinct, trendy vibe to it. This coffee shop is also open late on weekends, so it can be a fun place to hang with friends before going wherever else you plan to. Stop by Intelligentsia for a memorable coffee experience. *Other locations in Hollywood and Silverlake.
2. Coffee Commissary
This coffee shop lies on Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of Santa Monica. And it’s pretty hard to miss; neon pink decor catches your eye as soon as you come close to it. Commissary offers free wifi and is dog friendly, so it’s a great place to get work done with a pet. The decor is evidently one of the best parts about this shop, but the coffee itself isn’t to be missed out on, either. They offer oat milk and have quite a few vegan friendly snacks for those of you who are plant-based. *Other locations in Hollywood and Culver City.
3. Verve Coffee Roasters
Verve is located right on Melrose in the middle of West Hollywood; another great location for a coffee shop. With a minimalistic indoor area as well as an outside patio, there’s plenty of opportunity to people watch as well as get some work done. For those of you who don’t drink coffee, (not sure why you’d be reading this article… but anyways) they offer juice flights, so you can sample a number of drinks in one sitting. Verve is moderately priced but well worth the experience. *Other location in Downtown.
4. Alfred Coffee Brentwood
Located in Brentwood at the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and Montana Avenue, this coffee shop is a great place to go if you’re craving quality coffee in West LA. Pro tip: It’s also cute and incredibly aesthetically pleasing, so snap an Insta pic or two while you’re there. There’s free thirty minute valet parking with validation, or you can park in the surrounding neighborhood. The service is as excellent as the coffee, with a yummy and easy to read menu. *Other locations in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Silverlake, Studio City, and Koreatown.
5. Blue Bottle Coffee
Blue Bottle is located right smack in Downtown LA, so close to the Grand Central Market that you can enjoy your morning coffee with a sandwich from Eggslut (if you don’t know Eggslut and you live in LA; google it). Blue Bottle’s specialty is iced coffee, and customers rave about its New Orleans cold brew. The staff and service are welcoming and quick, and the interior is minimally decorated, cute, and clean. Stop by Blue Bottle if you’re a coffee snob looking for your latest obsession. *Other locations in Santa Monica, Venice, West LA, Beverly Hills, and Culver City.
6. Philz Coffee
Philz is conveniently located on Sunset Boulevard, so stop by the next time you’re venturing into Hollywood. Customers’ reviews rave about their legendary Mint Mojito (if you needed any recommendations). Their medley of blends ranges from dark to light to medium, and will have a coffee that can appeal to any connoisseur’s palette. *Other location in Santa Monica.
7. Groundwork Coffee Co.
Groundwork is another hipster coffee joint that lies in the heart of Hollywood. Their coffee will certainly be up to your standards, and they offer a few small bites to eat if you get hungry. The shop is nicely decorated, with a brick wall and wooden tables that give a slightly vintage feel to it. Stop by for your next cup of morning coffee. *Other locations in Santa Monica, Venice, and Central LA.
8. Alchemist Coffee Project
This sleek coffee-focused spot serves its customers out of a New Orleans style cafe, also offering an assortment of sweet and savory foods. The interior is decorated with a variety of light fixtures, and it can definitely get tricky to find a spot to sit at on weekdays. Stop by their one and only location in Koreatown for a unique coffee experience!
