New Year’s Resolution: Getting in Shape!

What is the number one New Year’s Resolution? Losing weight, slimming down, cutting back on the carbs etc. Yup, everyone is thinking the same thing. After indulging in all those decadent sweets and fatty sugars during the holidays, we all want to shed a few pounds. However, who isn’t still feeling the laziness that has overtaken our bodies?

 

Here are three easy steps that will help awaken your winter slumber!

1.      Make small goals

The biggest failure in a fitness plan is NOT starting one. Most of the time, because the goal is too hard to obtain, we tend to just give up thinking we can’t do it. Losing 30 lbs and working out 3 hours at the gym is much harder than losing 5lbs and working out for 30 minutes, so start making a goal this week.

Here’s some to help start yours:

■   Cut the fries out! Substitute fried foods with more healthy items like carrots, fruits and whole grain. Check out our [Negative] Freshman 15 board on Pinterest for tons of healthy recipes.

■   Start small with a 30 min workout session, 3x a week.

■   Pair up with a buddy.Tell your friend to drag you out of bed and set up times to hit the gym in between classes.

■   Don’t like the gym? Play outside! Try new sports like snowboarding, rowing or rock-climbing!

2. Check out some blogs for motivation and information!

 

Let’s face it, many of us are not fitness trainers. We need a little extra boost of motivation and information to help us achieve our fitness goals. That is why the Internet is so POWERFUL! There are so many blogs, YouTube video channels, and sites that offer varying fitness advice, workouts, and features.

Here’s a couple to check out:
■   BodyRock TV – A sexy and free fitness lifestyle online.

■   Bodybuilding.com -As a thorough fitness dedicated site, it offers fitness plans for varying levels, a forum, and even supplementation information.

■   GaiamTV – The best place to sign up for online yoga classes. Try it free for 10 days then get 3 months for only $25.

 

3.      Work out in style!

What celebrity inspires your workout gear? Is it Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks or the many Victoria Secret’s fashion models? Whatever they may be, wearing stylish fitness gear makes working out all the more fun!
