So you’re staying at home for the safety of you, your family, and friends. After so many weeks home alone you can slowly grow bored as you run out of things to do. It’s hard finding new ways to keep yourself entertained but these DIY art projects are going to fix those quarantine blues! With these easy art projects, you’ll never be bored again!
Paint on Cardboard
I’m sure you’re not alone when it comes to online shopping in quarantine. With almost everything being delivered you’ve got an abundance of cardboard boxes that are just going to be tossed away. Why not use them and create some really cool art pieces with this art project. You don’t have to be Bob Ross to be a great painter! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Paint Brushes
- Old Cardboard
By cutting up the cardboard into any shape you want the possibilities for paintings are endless. You can make some clouds and hang them up on your walls to create a sky effect. By cutting up stars and painting them yellow you can make a starry night right on your ceiling. The easiest thing to do is just paint on the cardboard like you would any other canvas. You could even host a wine and paint night over Zoom with your friends where you paint and drink as you share your art. This is a great way to get your mind entertained and it’s something fun for everyone to do.
Upcycle Old Clothes
With all this free time you’ve probably cleaned out your closet enough to make a whole other closet out of the clothing that you’re tossing out. Instead of completely getting rid of them try out this art project. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Old Clothes
- Acrylic or Fabric Paints
- Needle and Thread
Why not take that jean jacket and make it into something new! Paint a cool unique design on the back or add some new patches to give it a style all your own. You don’t have to be a master at sewing to be able to stitch on a few patches to that old dress of yours and give it a cool trendy look. By upcycling, you are able to create a whole new wardrobe just from your clothes at home!
Recycle Bottles and Make Planters
This art project is an easy one because all you’ll need is those old bottles you were just gonna toss in the recycling. Some people have taken it upon themselves to start gardening from their homes while in quarantine. This a great way to be able to bring life back into your home. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Plastic Bottles
- Yarn String
- Paint (optional)
Using a plastic bottle all you need to do is cut the top off and fill the bottom of the bottle with dirt and seed of your choice. It’s just that easy! Don’t throw the tops away because just by adding some string you’ll be able to make a hanging planter with the top halves. By using the bottles this way you are giving them a new purpose rather than just being landfill. Painting them will give them a vibrant new look. If you want to take it a step further it’s easy to create a self-watering planter with both halves of the bottles. All you need to do is cut them in half, stick a string through the cap and place it into the bottom half of the water bottle with water. Once you fill the top with soil and seeds the string will feed the water from below to the soil above. With this simple art project, you’ll have your own little garden in no time.
String Up Some Photos
Since everyone has to be home all the time it can get lonely. You start to really miss social interaction, especially with your friends and family. This art project is going to help you relive your favorite moments while giving your room an aesthetic upgrade. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Your Favorite Pictures With Friends and Family
- Yarn String
- Clothing Pins
- Liquid Glue/ Hot Glue Gun
- Printer Paper
- Fairy Lights (optional)
- Fake flowers (optional)
For this art project, all you will need to do is cut up some white paper to fit your photos of choice and glue it on. With markers, you can write whatever you want around the photo such as the date or event that they took place. Stick the yarn along the wall behind your bed. Along the string, you could decorate them with fairy lights or some faux flowers to give them a cute touch. Place the pictures with clothing pins onto the string to have your own photo wall. Having this by your bed will ensure that when you wake up and go to bed you’re reminded of all the people you love. It will give you a little bit of comfort having the people you love so near and will also give your room that cute look.
There are a great number of you who are lucky enough to be stuck in quarantine with your significant other. This art project is a cute and fun way to bring you close together and give you some art when you’re done. It only takes a few seconds but will create a meaningful piece that lasts a lifetime. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Brushes (optional)
That’s right, that’s all the supplies you will need for this. Pick the colors of your choice and paint each other’s hands. On the canvas, you’re going to place your painted hands one by one making sure your thumbs overlap to create a tiny heart. With the markers, you’re going to write out each other’s names with their respective hands and in the center, you will put the date you started dating. It’s as simple as that and yet now you have a cute art piece that was made by you and you’re significant other. You can even take it a step further and use brushes to paint designs with the handprints. No matter what you choose you will end up with a painting full of love that you can cherish forever.
Make An At Home Art Gallery
This last art project is just a cute way to display all the things you’ve made. Why not host your very own art gallery from the comfort of your home! You can have a Zoom call scheduled with your friends and you can walk around showing them all the art you created. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Picture Frames
- Fairy Lights (optional)
Get a Poster-Board to create a sign for your art gallery and get creative with the name. Put your paintings and drawings in pictures frames so you can hang them up on your wall. Bring your strung up photos and hang them above your artwork. Have your new plants on a table in front and get some pretty fairy lights to give the gallery a finishing touch. Have your friends do their own art galleries at their houses and you can have a whole art show right there on Zoom!
Tell us in the comments which of these you’ve art projects you decided to try out! Share it with your friends so they can have some fun art projects to do in quarantine.
