1. Paper Snowflakes

Paper snowflakes are an easy accessory to add to your dorm room door, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or any other winter holiday. All you’ll need is some paper (colored or white depending on your preferences), a pair of scissors, and some tape to hang them with later. This is a great DIY because it costs little to no money to do and many of us as college students are, of course, broke. If you want, you could even put some snowflakes on your windows to add some decorations to the inside of your room!

2. A Paper-Chain Christmas Tree

This DIY is fantastic if you want a christmas tree in your dorm but don’t have the money or space to put one inside your room. For this craft you’ll need scissors, tape, and green and brown construction paper. In order to create your Christmas tree, cut out rectangles from your green construction papermaking sure they are about the same size, and make paper chains out of them at whatever length you want depending on how big you want your tree to be. Then, tape them to your door at a center point and extend them outwards in different directions to make the tree shape using your tape to hold them in place. Then, with your brown construction paper, make a tree stump and tape it underneath the tree. If you want, feel free to use ribbon to put a bow on the top or construction paper to make a star for the top.

NOTE: When making your Christmas tree, make sure to follow your school’s regulations and rules on how much of your door can be covered. At my university, for example, only 1/3 of my door can be covered by decorations.

4. Giant Present

For this DIY you’ll have to pay special attention of your school’s rules and regulations about how much of your door can be covered. You’ll need ribbon, construction paper, tape, and scissors. First, plan out where on your door you want the ribbon wrapping to go. Do you want the ribbon centered, off centered, diagonal? Then, cut the appropriate amount and tape it to your door. A helpful tip is that you can use your construction paper to make the print you want to act as your wrapping paper, then you’re done! Simple and easy.

6. Fireplace with stockings

Unlike other DIYs, this one requires paint so if you love to paint this is the one for you. For this craft you’ll need a large sheet of white paper, a sponge, a paper plate, red paint, construction paper, tape and scissors. To make the fireplace, follow the directions attached (make sure the brick pattern only covers a fraction of your door).  This is a great DIY holiday room decor project to do with your roommate or friends! It could get a little messy, but that just makes for better memories, at least I think so.

7. Hanukkah Ribbon and Stars Decor

This DIY doesn’t really have a particular name for it, but it looks really cool. For this one you’ll need different spools of blue ribbon, each of different shades, wooden stars, different shades of blue paint, scissors, command strips, and tape. First, cut your ribbon at different lengths and arrange them on your door however you want. Tape them down to keep them secure. Then, take your wooden stars, whether you want them to be the common five-point stars or Stars of David is up to you, and paint them different shades of blue. Let them dry, then use your command strips (make sure they can hold the weight of your stars) and attach them to the ends of your ribbon. If you need this to be a lower budget DIY instead of painting wooden stars, construction paper works too. The end product creates a really neat dropping effect and will look artsy and festive on your door! Definitely a cute DIY holiday room decor idea for your dorm door!
