2020 Denver Events You Absolutely Cannot Miss

Since the state legalization of marijuana in Colorado, Denver events, shows, and music festivals have been becoming more and more popular with every passing year. This our year of 2020 is no exception, with more music, food, and fun than ever! As such I could go on and on about all the fun things to do while barely scratching the surface. However, as time is limited and fleeting, I’ll just give you 10 examples to help you get a general idea of what’s to come this year. However, it should be noted that all of these events aren’t necessarily in downtown Denver, but also in the general Denver area.

A Taste of Colorado

A classic but a goodie as far as Denver events are concerned, A Taste of Colorado is a must for natives, new residents, and tourists alike. A Taste of Colorado has the description right in the name: it’s a festival that’s simply brimming with Colorado’s favorite music, crafts, and cuisine all Labor Day weekend. It’s the epitome of Colorado culture from food trucks and green Chile to local jewelers and craft brewers, all conveniently located at Civic Center Park from Saturday, September 5th to Sunday, September 6th from 11 am to 10pm and Monday, September 7th from 11am to 8:30pm. The event itself is free, however, there is the option to pay for The Capitol VIP experience, which includes better concert seating and access to exclusive food sampling and free drinks.

Reggae on the Rocks 2020

Reggae on the Rocks is a Denver event classic. Even though technically it’s in Morrison, Red Rocks Amphitheater is so popular it may as well be a Denver venue. This year reggae on the rocks is featuring Rebelution, along with Steel Pulse, The Green, Keznamdi and other popular reggae artists. It’s going to be fun on a Rasta bun. Get your tickets for Saturday, August 22nd or Sunday, August 23rd.

2020 Hella Mega Tour

Revisit the skater culture of the early 2000s at The Hella Mega Tour, featuring Green Day, Fallout Boy, and Weezer. Go for the nostalgia, or to catch up on their new songs. Show takes place on July 28th at Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

Pride Fest

On top of everything else Denver has to offer, it also has a thriving LGBTQ community, and it is reflected as such in our Denver events. One such event, which is always very popular, is the Denver Pride Fest. It starts on June 20th at 8am with the Pride 10k run and continues from 11 to 7pm with the festival itself, ending with the Coors Light Pride Parade the next day from 9:30am to noon. The festival itself will be a celebration of the Colorado LGBTQ community through music, dance, and art, not to mention a plethora of food and drinks.

Denver Taco Fest

Come June 27-28, it’s taco time in Denver. Denver Taco Fest is featuring live music, all the $2 tacos you can fit in your belly, and a giant tequila tasting this year, as well as live game shows, luchador wrestling, and even high-speed chihuahua racing.

KS107.5 Summer Jam

Every August 22nd you can look forward to the KBPI Summer Jam, a phat ole rap show that takes place at the Pepsi Center. The lineup has yet to be announced, however last year the event featured Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, Ty Dolla $ign, Joyner Lucas and Yella Beezy. Expect tickets to start going up for sale in early June.

Mile High 420 Fest

The Mile High 420 Festival has been one of the biggest events in Denver’s history since marijuana was legalized for medical use in 2000. It’s a free event that takes place at Civic Center Park every April 20th. Granted, it isn’t recreational blazing abound (it’s illegal to smoke in public), but it does feature live music including local artists as well as world-renowned musicians such as Lil’ Wayne and Wiz Khalifa, as well as a beer garden and a fairly-sized fleet of food trucks. And while you can’t chief up in plain sight, there will be a plethora of dispensary discount and promotion coupons. Also, get in early because that line can get gnarsty.

Comedy Tours

I had to throw this one in because, as far as Denver events go, we get some really great comedy tours. You may have seen a comedy special or two on Netflix, but there’s really no comparing that to seeing a show in person. You can check out the Comedy Works website for a calendar of their shows, and there’s always a show at many of the major venues in Denver. If you’ve never been to a show at Comedy Works though, definitely get tickets and go experience it ASAP. It’s a great way to spend a night out – you get stealthily delivered drinks and food while you damn near break your ribs laughing at your favorite comedian’s jokes that you wouldn’t hear on their Netflix special.

Global Dub

If anyone knows anything about Coloradans and Denver events, they’d know we’re big bass-heads here in the mile-high city. One of our most well-known music festivals, Global Dub, takes place on May 16th at Red Rocks Amphitheater. This year it will feature legendary EDM artists Liquid Stranger, Subtronics and Herobust. Get tickets before they’re gone.

Global Dance Festival

Another legendary EDM festival of Colorado, not to be confused with Global Dub, is the Global Dance Festival. This is one Denver event you won’t want to miss. The dates are from July 17th to the 19th at the Empower Field. Last year it featured a whole slew of well known EDM artists such as Herobust, Diplo, Excision, and Black Tiger Sex Machine among many, and it’s sure to be an equally exciting lineup this year (lineup yet to be announced). So get your tickets, grab your friends and go headbang until your neck hurts!
