12 Types Of People You’ll Run Into When In Seattle

Maintaining friendships as an adult can be hard, but's possible to do. We'll tell you everything you need to know to keep your relationships strong!

Seattle’s multifaceted culture draws many different kinds of people into the city. Although we have been known for our artistic and musical taste in the past, modern Seattle has brought new groups into an already diverse population. Next time you are standing in line for coffee or grabbing groceries as PCC, take a look around and see if you can spot some of these characters.

1.Seahawks Fan

This is the guys that has real love for football, even on the off season when he dreaming of the Sunday’s he can spend in the Seattle drizzle to support his team at Centurylink Field. You can usually spot him grabbing a beer at a local sports club or getting into his pickup truck. Make sure you tip your hat and wish him a great season.

2.Hippy Dippy Momma

The hippies in Seattle are some of my favorite people. Usually they are middle to golden age folks that wear loose, flowy clothes and will give you an herbal remedy for your sore throat. They will happily talk about their garden and drive those sick old VW beetles that run on diesel and dreams. Although they usually stick to Capitol Hill or Fermont, you can easily find them at Hempfest or Folk life. Hippies have nothing but nice things to say (unless you are on the opposite side of politics) and are keeping Seattle real. We love you, hippies!

3.Hipsters

Beneath those floppy hats and cat eye sunglasses are those hipsters that are eyeballing those vintage deals at Buffalo Exchange before heading to their local indie coffee shop. Their jeans are usually skinned and ripped, their boots look like they belonged to a British rock group from the 60’s. They are moody (unless caffeinated), they are edgy, and they were wearing their hair this way before it was cool. Rock on hipsters.

4.Coffee Snob

You drink Starbucks? Gross. If you don’t buy organic beans, ground your own beans, use expensive filters, use a pour over, and drink it black? Then you are drinking it wrong. If this conversation is familiar, you have had a run in with a coffee snob.

5.Beer Snob

Seattle has taken beer to a whole new level. Not that that is bad thing, but it means that you might be judged if you reach for something like a Corona. The take over of small breweries in the Seattle area has changed the way we are drinking beer, but we are not complaining. Get your growlers ready and have your beer snob friend lead the way to their favorite brewery. It’s probably in Fremont.

6.Someone Who Moved to Seattle to Work at Amazon

This can be a touchy subject now-a-days. Seattle is feeling overcrowded and a lot of people are starting to grumble about the large population that Amazon is bringing in. Don’t get us wrong, we love that our economy is booming, but we kinda hate sitting in traffic for hours and the fact that we have to live with 10 roommates because the rent is ridiculous. So we are happy your here but we are also kinda annoyed.

7.Mountaineer

This person bikes to work, eats a kale based lunch, and somehow even in the dead of winter has a tan. They have hiked and biked all the known trails in the Northwest and are incredibly upbeat because of all the exercise and fresh air the daily recieve. You can probably locate this Seattleite explaining which climbing shoes are best at the local REI or running a 5k while the rest of us snooze away our Saturday’s.

8.Techie

They have the best new toys and will spend the next half hour explaining to you why it’s the best. These Seattleites are excited for the new drones from Amazon and are looking to trade in their car for a Tesla. Also, they are all disappointed in the new iphone. Get your stuff together Apple!

Seattle has always been known for being a very green city, which is why there is a new generation that is very focused on caring on Seattle’s dedication to cleaning up the environment. The young environmentalists probably studied Forestry at the UW and has a large collection of reusable bags in the back of their Nissan, Leaf.

10.UW student

Clad in black leggings and a sweatshirt, clutching a coffee and riding the bus to class. The UW students are pretty easy to pick out from the crowd because of the small glimmer of fear in their eyes as the result of loomming student debts. Also, they wear a lot of purple UW sweaters.

11.Proud Dog Parents

Their dogs are in better health than you are because the proud dog parents of Seattle buy nothing but top brand for their babies. These pups live a good life; primped, groomed, and well loved. Dog parents are slowly moving Seattle into a more dog friendly community, and we are not complaining.

12.Someone Who Is Way Richer than you

They probably drive a Tesla, have a maid, and drink nice wine at dinner. Seattle is packed with a very wealthy class. You can find these people easily because they are the ones living in a house they own in Seattle. That’s the dream.

The diversity in our people in makes Seattle great mix of modern and classic. No matter who you are, remember we are a city of equality and respect; love everyone and all their quirks. Did I miss a typical Seattleite? Let us know in the comments below!
