
Reality has hit; it’s real. In a few months you’ll be on your way to the best four years of your life. Going away for college can be an exciting time. You’ll be focusing on your grades, while getting involved and maintaining a social life. The summer is the best time to do everything you want, right before you head off to be the independent adult you’re expected to be. But don’t forget to have a little fun before that! Don’t forget to spend time with your loved ones. As much as you want to go away, you will miss your parents and siblings. Being in a completely new environment can be really scary. At times you may get some serious homesickness, and your family wont be there. Put some time aside to really enjoy their company. We may not realize how much we really take it for granted sometimes.
Getting a job is essential. Going away to school in New York City there are going be so many opportunities to go out, but none of it is free. So start saving now for those weekend nights out, and endless amounts of take out food.
Going into college you’re most likely in your teens or early twenties. These are your prime years! Make a bucket list for the summer. Do things you’ve never done, and go to places you haven’t seen! Go ahead and make the world yours.
Many of our high school besties that we’re so used to seeing for four years straight, five days a week, are going away to other colleges. Make the most of the time you have left together! It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later!
Going away to school is like moving away, except you’ll be back in a few months! Pack accordingly; make sure you buy all the necessary things you’ll be needing and make a list.
Do some research, and find out if SJU has a Facebook group for your graduating class. Here’s one to get you started. Make new friends! You all have something to relate to, and you wont be alone in the process.
When you’re assigned a roommate, you usually know. Whether it’s a name or an email, reach out to him or her. This is someone you’ve never met before, and you guys are going to be living together. Get to know each other ahead of time, there’s so much to look forward to!
Now on a more serious note. College is fun and all, but don’t forget to finish up any financial responsibilities you may have. Whether it’s financial aid, a scholarship or any loans you need to take out, make sure you’re on top of everything, and have it submitted before the deadline!
Last but not least, have fun before your freshman year at SJU! College is what you make of it, and it can be the best four years of your life. Don’t stress it, and relax. Everything will fall into place the way it’s supposed to.
