Let’s get one thing straight, it is ok to be alone – it’s as simple as that. But, sometimes being alone can get just a little too much, and can obviously get you down. You could have a million people around you, but you would still feel alone. Whether that’s because you aren’t good at being alone, or you aren’t comfortable spending time with yourself – being alone is all about being you. Your biggest commitment must always be to yourself. This is why it is ok to be alone.
1. Finding Yourself
Very cliché, but very true. When you’ve been in a long-term relationship and you suddenly find yourself out of it, being alone can be a scary thought. You start asking yourself questions, and one in-particular; who am I? When you’ve been with one person for a certain amount of time, sometimes you wonder who you would be without that person by your side. It’s a daunting prospect, but one that is necessary to go through. When you’re alone, you find out who you truly are; what you like, what you believe and who you want to be.
2. Spending Time With Yourself
It is so important to make time for yourself when you are in a relationship, but it’s even more important to spend time with yourself when you’re no longer in it. Spending time with yourself, being comfortable spending time with yourself and loving yourself. When you are alone, it gives you the opportunity to be good at all of those things. Spend time with yourself, know how to be alone. Read a book, watch a film or go sight-seeing, learn to like your own company – this will make being alone your norm.
3. Be Good At Being Alone
If you’re good at being alone, you can literally rule the world. If you believe in yourself and have confidence in yourself, then you can do anything. If you believe in yourself, and you no longer have to rely on someone else, then that is your super power. Go through life focusing on yourself and doing things for yourself, and be good at being alone.
4. Be There For Yourself
No one can pick you up and dust you off quite like yourself. One of the greatest things you can do, is be there for yourself. Cheer yourself up, help yourself get through struggles in life. Having people around who love and care for you is important, but being there for yourself when they aren’t, and in ways that they can’t be there is vital to being alone – be strong for yourself.
5. Do Things For Yourself
Being alone is the perfect time to do things for yourself. You can do whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it. Do things you’ve always wanted to do, whether that be with a friend or a family member, or completely on your own. This is the time to do things for yourself, and to enjoy your time being completely devoted to yourself. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new things, open your mind to new possibilities and experiences. After all, it’s these experiences that will make you, you.
6. Make Yourself Happy
Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in trying to make other people happy, that we forget about ourselves. Or, we depend all of our happiness on someone else. If we can make ourselves happy, then we will always be happy. Don’t rely on other people to create that happiness for you, because when that person goes, so does your happiness. Make yourself laugh and be kind to yourself, do things that will make you happy.
