Not everyone has the time or money to be going to a spa every other week but there are times when it becomes a necessity. When your shoulders and feet become sore, your eyes get tired and puffy, and your mind is fried from work and university. Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’ve come up with 10 simple ways to turn your room into an at-home spa!
1. Prepare some detox water
Before starting your at home-spa day, prepare some detox water and put it in the fridge until you want to drink it. Detox water is a must in all spas and it’s very simple to prepare. All you have to do is cut up some lemons, green apples, mint and cucumbers and place it in a jug of water. It’s very tasty, nutritious and it’ll make you feel right at the spa instead of being at home.
2. Light some scented candles
This one’s kind of obvious but it is so so important. Scented candles. There’s nothing better than lighting a candle and laying in bed, waiting for your entire room to fill with the scent of vanilla or cinnamon or whatever makes you happy. Take a moment, breathe, and be careful not to start a fire!
3. Turn on your speakers
To really make the experience stand out, get some speakers and open Spotify. Find the most relaxing and calming meditation playlist and play it with the volume up high. It really sets the mood and transforms the vibe from your room to a spa.
4. Bring out the essential oils
A little drop of essential oil goes a long way. Aromatherapy is known to have many benefits including reducing stress and anxiety. Try using eucalyptus or lavender oils by applying a tiny drop behind your ears or in your steam bath and let the magic of these scents put you in a place of relaxation.
5. Refresh with an at-home steam bath
Open up your pores and refresh yourself with an at-home steam bath. Do this by boiling some water in a pot and adding some energizing essential oils like peppermint. Place your head above the pot and cover it with a towel for 10 minutes. It may be uncomfortable but trust me the second the towel is off you’ll feel like a whole new person!
5. Exfoliate with a DIY body scrub
Give your skin and your bank account some love by exfoliating your entire body with a simple DIY body scrub. All you have to do is mix one cup of coffee, one cup of sugar and half a tablespoon of coconut for an energizing scrub. Put on a hair mask while you’re at it and apply some lotion after washing off. Your skin will never have felt so smooth!
6. Apply a revitalizing sheet mask
After cleaning off all the dirt from your body, sit back in bed and apply a cooling sheet mask. The mask will help depuff your under eye bags, rehydrate your skin, and overall make all of the stress leave your face for a few minutes. After that, apply your skin routine and you’re ready for some meditation.
7. Enjoy a warming cup of green tea
While you’re preparing to meditate, enjoy a nice cup of green tea or whatever hot drink you like. Green tea is very light and detoxifying, making it the perfect drink to enjoy at your at-home spa day.
9. Soak your feet
While you’re meditating, grab a bowl and soak your tired feet in some hot water after a long week of working. Mix in some Epsom salts, essential oils, and maybe a few dried petals if you’re feeling fancy and start to relax your entire body.
The most important part of a spa is sitting back and meditating. Lie back in bed, close your eyes, listen to the music, and shut off all of your thoughts. Remove all the stress from your body, all of your annoying thoughts, and find a point of complete relaxation. Hopefully this one day of self-care dedicated to making your mental and physical health get better will help you move on in life. It’s important to have these few moments to yourself sometimes in life.
