7 Ways To Rock Wearing A Ponytail

Ponytails are the easiest way for girls to keep their hair out of their faces. I always have my hair up in a ponytail since it takes about two seconds to put it up like that. Ponytails can sometimes seem a little young and childish, though, so when you start getting older, girls tend to find new ways to keep their hair up that seems more mature. I know I’ve tried different hairstyles through high school and college, but I always came back to the ponytail for some reason.

There are so many different ponytails you can choose from, so you’ll find one that you like. Some of them involve braids, and some of them have hair wrapped around the elastic. You can wear your hair in a different ponytail all seven days of the week, and you would still have different types of ponytails left over. This article goes into some of the different types of ponytails, but it certainly won’t cover every different ponytail out there. There are some types of ponytails that you didn’t even know were considered ponytails because they look more like braids than they do ponytails. But they will be called ponytails in this article.

1. Knotted Ponytail

This looks like an ordinary ponytail, but if you look closely, you’ll see that she has some hair wrapped around the elastic holding her ponytail in place. It is a regular ponytail with a slight twist that makes it seem a little more mature. To make this ponytail, you put your hair in a low ponytail, right at the base of your hairline. Then you take a quarter of your hair and wrap it around the elastic so the tips of your hair will end underneath your ponytail. Then you tuck the tips into the elastic to keep your hair in place. It’s a fairly simple but mature-looking hair-do.

2. Braided Ponytail

This hair-do is a little more complicated. You can do it with a braid on each side or just one braid altogether. You want to start with the braid by dividing your hair in half and then French braiding wherever you want the braid to be. To French braid, you start with three small chunks of hair and you braid it like normal. Each time you use each strand, you want to pick up a little more hair and continue braiding it. When you get the braid(s) where you want it, but the elastic in to stop the braids from coming out. You can leave the ponytail where it is, or you can wrap some of your hair around the elastic, like the picture shows.

3. Side Ponytail

This is another fairly simple hair-do. You can do this two ways, as well. You can gather your hair on one side and put the elastic in to hold your hair together, or you can braid your hair around the back of your head. This braid will be very similar to the French braid from the ponytail above. After you get your hair the way you want it, you can wrap some hair around the elastic, too, making the elastic invisible to everyone, or you can leave it alone.

4. High Ponytail

High ponytails are really easy to do, and they make you look a lot taller than you are. Ariana Grande has her hair in high ponytails all the time. You can do these by gathering all of your hair as high as you can on your head and using an elastic to hold it together. You can divide your hair in half and wrap half of it around the elastic to make the ponytail look fancier, or you can leave it alone and just have a high ponytail. Either way looks really nice.

5. Wrap Around Ponytail

This hair-do is just an ordinary ponytail with something a little different than we’ve been talking about in this article. You can put the ponytail up high or down low, wherever you feel most comfortable with the ponytail. You divide your hair in half, but instead of wrapping your hair around the elastic, you braid it first. You can use an ordinary braid for this hair-do. Just braid it and wrap the braid around the elastic, tucking the end of the braid into the elastic or underneath the braid layers if you’d rather. This ponytail looks a little more mature than just putting your hair into a normal ponytail, so it will look a little better.

6. Ponytail Twist

This is my favorite way to wear a ponytail. You can make this two different ways. My favorite is to make a normal ponytail, making it in the middle of your head. You push your fingers through the top of the elastic, closest to your head, and you pull the ponytail through the opening your fingers made. It looks really nice and pretty. The second way is to divide your hair in half and twirl them. Twist the two sides together and put the elastic in to stop the twirls from coming out. It is a little tricky to do your hair this way, but it will look really good when you master it.

7. Half Braid Ponytail

This is one of those hair-dos that doesn’t really look like a ponytail. That is because you are making two braids that meet in the back of your head. Take about a quarter of your hair on each side and make two braids the normal way. You can either put elastics on each braid to hold them in place or you can attach both braids together with one elastic at the end. You can make this into a ponytail by putting all of your hair up once you’ve made the braids. It may look a little messy, depending on how you’ve made the braids, but it will be a nice hair-do anyway.

There are so many more versions of wearing a ponytail than I’ve covered in this article, so if I missed one of your favorite ways, feel free to leave a comment down below and tell me how you wear your ponytails!
