6 Ways To Detoxify This Summer

Summer is a great time to detoxify. You hopefully have more time to relax and enjoy all that the summer sun has to offer with its warmth and embrace the comfort of mother nature. Here are 6 ways to detoxify this summer.

1. Lemon Water, Cayenne Pepper, and Turmeric

Lemon water and turmeric make a great team when it comes to cleansing your system. Drinking it warm is best, as the lemon water helps to give your digestive system a healthy kick in the morning to jumpstart your day. This mix is filled with Vitamin-C, anti-oxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds like the curcumin found in turmeric. Curcumin helps the body absorb nutrients and helps with inflammatory issues like arthritis. It has also been shown to hinder the growth of cancer cells. You can also mix in some honey to your lemon water and turmeric if you’re not a huge fan of the taste. Honey is also extremely healthy and has anti-bacterial qualities. As for the cayenne pepper, it can also help to detoxify by boosting your metabolism and can lower blood pressure.

2.  Meditation

Meditation can be a great way to detoxify. It lowers stress levels and gives you time to get back in touch with your mind and body. In a fast-paced world, it is hard to find time to pay attention to yourself. Meditating for a few minutes a day can be a key step in your happiness and appreciation for yourself and your body. Meditation can also improve mind-based disorders like anxiety and PTSD. There are many kinds of meditation, and they all work differently depending on what you are comfortable with. Some kinds of meditation, like self-inquiry meditation, can help you to get in touch with yourself and recognize harmful thoughts you may be having.

3. Epsom Salt Baths

The two main ingredients in Epsom salt are magnesium and sulfate. These elements combine to detoxify.  Magnesium helps with different bodily functions and aids in the removal of toxins. Sulfate can strengthen the walls of the digestive tract which makes it easier for your body to release those toxins. Epsom baths can soothe the skin and ease any stiffness you might have in your body. Stress can also cause your body to tighten, and an Epsom salt bath can aid in alleviating the effects of stress and calming your nervous system. Magnesium is also thought to have a positive effect on sleep.

4. Manuka Face Wash

Who knew honey could be used to detoxify in so many ways? Manuka honey, like most honey, has natural antibacterial and cleansing properties. It also soothes inflamed skin, which can help you get rid of acne and red blotches. Manuka oxygenates pores to draw the bacteria out of your skin which can drastically improve acne-prone areas of your face like your forehead or t-zone. Manuka honey also hydrates your skin to create that vibrant complexion you’ve been craving. Using it as a mask is easy and fun. It also smells pretty good, so that’s a plus.

5. Ghee

You might not know that saturated fat is actually essential for proper brain health. Ghee is one of those healthy saturated fats that comes from a natural source and lacks the lactose that butter has. In this way, ghee can help detoxify your body and help your brain stay healthy to prevent disease. Ghee also contains omega-3 fatty acids, another nutrient that is essential and helpful to brain health. In can slow aging and help with memory, mood, and attentiveness. Ghee can also be helpful in treating and preventing digestive issues such as IBS or leaky gut syndrome. Because it does not have any milk content, it almost never expires. You can use it to cook almost anything as you would with oil, and it’ll give your food a rich, buttery flavour. Another upside is that it has a high smoke point and can handle heat up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Eat light foods

Choose foods like quinoa, fruits, and veggies to detoxify this summer. Lighter foods will help you feel lighter, less sluggish, and more refreshed. Quinoa is high in protein, fibre, magnesium, B vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants which will help your body detoxify and feel stronger. Fruits like avocados are incredibly nutritious and great for your skin. It is a great source of vitamins and carries healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
