2018 has already been a really exciting year for video games. With games like Far Cry 5, a remastered Shadow of the Colossus, Sea of Thieves, and God of War, gamers everywhere have likely already spent hundreds on the latest releases for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, the year is far from over in the way of gaming. With E3 on the horizon, we’re expected to get finalized release dates for a lot of highly-anticipated games as well as hoping for the general announcement of others (Borderlands 3, anyone?). Here’s a list of video games coming out before the end of 2018 that you need to start saving for right now.
Arguably the most highly-anticipated game coming out soon, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released October 26th for both the PS4 and Xbox One. This series has attained massive amounts of success due to its expansive open-world map, compelling plot, and incredible graphics. You don’t want to miss this next installment.
Now, I very hesitantly put this one in the “2018 release date” category because the actual release date is still TBA (Naughty Dog has a bad habit of setting a release dates and pushing them back several times like with the original The Last of Us and Uncharted 4), but everyone is still hopeful. We do know it’s going to be released on the PS4, though. This series is full of heartbreak, an encapsulating story line, and utterly realistic characters. The graphics in the original The Last of Us probably trump most things on this list (even the lens flares are really incredible). From the trailers, it looks like there’s a lot of trouble in store for Ellie and Joel… like they need any more of that.
Highly anticipated in the Nintendo realm is Mario Tennis Aces, the latest installment in a long line of Mario Tennis games. I don’t think anyone needs an introduction for this game, as it has already proven why it deserves to be a massive success. It’s set for release on July 22 for the Switch. This is one of the coolest video games coming out in 2018!
We are FINALLY getting another Kingdom Hearts game in 2018! YAY! We don’t know the official release date yet, but it’s definitely going to be in 2018; tune into E3 to find out exactly when. Kingdom Hearts 3 will be for the PS4 and Xbox One.
From Hideo Kojima, mad-genius director in charge of the Metal Gear games, comes Death Stranding. Not too much is known about the game, but Kojima did mention that the story line places emphasis on the connection between life and death. The trailers have been downright disturbing and a little confusing, which I think is a good thing. The release date is TBA, and the game will be exclusively for the PS4.
It’s been much too long since we had a really good Spider-Man game. This one has a definite release date, September 7th. If you pre-order it now, you’ll get the Spider-Punk, Iron Spider, and one other mystery suit, how cool! This one will be playable on the PS4.
Set for a September 14th release date, this Tomb Raider will be the next in a long line of franchise successes. Its good graphics, tried and tested story line, and fast-paced action almost guarantee it’ll be a mega hit. It’ll be available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Even though CoD has had about a million games, the fan base never wavers in its support of the franchise. This latest CoD is set for release on October 12th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This is one of the most anticipated video games coming out in 2018!
