15 Things You’ll Regret Not Doing At University of Hertfordshire

If you attend University of Hertfordshire, these are a few things you will regret not having done throughout your college career. Check them out.

Starting University is one of the biggest milestones in one’s life; finishing University is another! You definitely won’t miss going to your 9 a.m.’s with the biggest hangover of your life, spending ridiculous amounts on takeaways and staying up all night to finish that essay you left till last minute. However, there are things you’d regret not doing before you graduate from University of Hertfordshire.

1. Joining a Society

This is one of the easiest places to make new friends and meet like-minded people. Societies vary from faith based, subject related, cultural, sports, to exciting thing like pole dancing and cheerleading society. Membership fees start from as little as £1 so there is no excuse why you shouldn’t join one.

2. The Forum (Cheeky Wednesdays)

Wednesday nights are one of the biggest student nights on campus. There are special acts occasionally and trust me, you don’t want to miss them. So far, artistes like Sean Kingston, Jhus, etc. have performed. Tickets are relatively sold out before the day and there are always freebies for grabs like pizza, shots etc. Big Shaq is coming soon (Man’s not hot), have you bought your ticket?

3. Collecting a free University of Hertfordshire hoodie

Now, this is one of the things I regret not doing. I had a chance to get a free hoodie whilst I was in my second year but I was feeling too lazy. I’m so jealous of everyone is see rocking theirs. Opportunity comes but once you see.

4. Failing to swipe your student card

This is a no brainer but some students still fail to swipe at least once a week. This is important for student finance to know you are still attending and also for attendance requirements especially if your department requires you to swipe per lecture for proof of attendance.

5. Shisha Shake

Almost everyone I know has been here. If you haven’t, you don’t know what you’re missing. This is a chill out spot for most University of Hertfordshire students to smoke shisha and hang out with friends. With only £12 between you and your friends, you can have a swell time here. They also serve drinks and snacks too and open till very late.

6. Themed Rave

This could be a dress up Halloween party at the Forum or a UV themed rave. You can show off your creative skills to your friends and also stand a chance of winning £100 for the best dressed. Free money guys!

7. Careers Fair

If you are in your final year like me, you will always get e-mails bombarding you about employment fairs, graduate scheme opportunities etc. This is a vital part of university and there are loads of opportunities to grab at these events. Make sure you have signed up to receive-weekly emails/updates as this will help you find work experience, part-time jobs, internships etc. Don’t sleep on it!

8. Careers Service

They are here for us! They have offices on both Dehav and College Lane and help with CVs, help in looking for work, assist with business start-up plans, workshops to help with interviews, assessments, public speaking etc. This service has helped lots of students land their dream job and make useful contacts for the future. They are available every week day including holidays and also have drop in sessions daily.

9. ATWU

I’m pretty sure every University of Hertfordshire party goer like me is familiar with ‘All The Way Up’ events at the forum. The last one was a Tim Westwood event and omg was it packed! I had so much fun and I am always looking forward to their events. Popular artistes like Big Tobz, Burna boy, Omarion etc. Stefflon Don will be performing next. I’ve bought my ticket of course, have you?

10. Summer Ball

This is an event I am looking forward to before I graduate. This is the chance for you to dress up and seen as I love anything sparkly and glittery, it is the perfect excuse to dress up. Judging from pictures last year, there will probably be pendulum rides and other interesting attractions, can’t wait!

11. House Parties

UH is famous for its house parties. It used to be mostly on Dehav, but I think College Lane students have taken over! Especially during fresher’s week. Free drinks, why not? Making friends whilst drunk? Hell yeah! That’s if security doesn’t shut it down lol.

12. Starbucks

I’m a huge fan of Starbucks, from their caramel frappes to their chai latte. You have to get there as early as possible as there is always a queue because who doesn’t love Starbucks. Although, try to avoid their overpriced sandwiches, Aldi is there to save you those coins. I still need to try out the pumpkin spiced latte.

13. Surveys

Sometimes, we get those annoying e-mails from the University about how well we are settling in to Uni life or how we have benefited from the Student Union. It is worth filling them in because not only do you get to voice your opinions and make University of Hertfordshire better, you also stand a chance of winning a £50 Amazon voucher. Sick right?

14. Being a Student Rep

Though not everyone can balance this role with their studies and part-time work, if you’ve got the drive and passion to make things right on your course, you should consider becoming a student rep. It gives you a say in the running and delivering of modules etc.

15. Attending a focus group

If you get an email about this and you’ve got the time, go for it. This is about a few students coming together to give student feedback on services etc. It usually lasts about 1 hour and at the end, you get pizza and everyone gets a £10 amazon voucher.

By now, you’ve probably guessed I love freebies and love having a good time. What other things would you regret not doing before leaving University of Hertfordshire?
