The Best Tips On How To Feel Motivated Year-Round
Motivation is what we all struggle with. It’s also called procrastination or ‘I’d rather do something else and then I will FOR SURE get back to it’ (but we find something else to do instead lol). But how do we keep our motivation levels up? How do we continue to be excited about this new activity we’ve started or about a new project? Well, here are the best tips on how to feel motivated year-round!
Set REALISTIC goals.
Are you learning a new language? Started painting? Feeling discouraged? DO NOT GIVE UP! You just have to set a few realistic goals on what you want to achieve according to your activity. Sit for a few moments before you start your new activity and set weekly or monthly goals. Small and achievable goals that are easy to accomplish in order to keep going. That way you can look forward to the future and you’ll actually feel proud of yourself for achieving every one of your goals! This should be the first thing you do if you’re struggling with how to feel motivated.
I know that you don’t want to hear this word but exercise is actually a great answer for how to feel motivated! With exercise, you produce endorphins that make you feel happy! When you’re happy and generally in a more positive and upbeat mood, you are more willing to do more things and actually follow through with your goals.
Make it fun.
At the end of the day, what you’re doing has to be fun and enjoyable in order for you to stay motivated and willingly continue with it. Of course, you will have bad days when you hate everything or you don’t feel like continuing, but those are the days when you have to rest for a bit. The next step is to switch things up and make it more fun! If you’re learning a new language and feel unmotivated, then go study at a cafe or listen to podcasts, do something differently. If you’re exercising and feel like giving up, get a gym buddy to have some company and have a laugh!
One of my biggest secrets for how to feel motivated is creating a routine that I stick to it. I know which days I’m working, which ones I have to babysit and which ones I have deadlines at. By creating this routine, this weekly schedule, I actually stick to it because everything is scheduled for me. I don’t have to think much about where I have to be or what I have to do. I am organised, my mind is organised, and I can accomplish my goals more effectivelly. Some people who hate routine might not agree with this, but I always say try it first before you disagree!
This is my second biggest secret on how to feel motivated! I create healthy habits. This tip goes hand in hand with the previous one as they are similar. When I keep doing something as part of a routine, I get used to it and I don’t give it much thought when I am about to do it. Of course I love what I’m doing to keep being motivated. For example, in order to keep on going to the gym, I schedule it to go every other day at 8.30pm. In the beginning, I really had to push myself to go, but when it has turned into a habit, I felt odd whenever I didn’t go.
Another example, I started learning a new language by myself. I’ve created the habit of studying for a bit at 10pm (I know I’m crazy!) before bed. It’s all about making it a habit to stay motivated. If you start feeling unmotivated, take a break and then come back to it with a different and more fun approach!
