Whether you are walking around the Edinburgh city centre for some shopping or you have left your flat specifically to look for some delicious food, these 10 places are exactly what you will need to satisfy your cravings. From big layered burgers, to mouthwatering French toasts, you just have to pick one of them and your day out in Edinburgh will become a day you will never forget.

1. Urban Angel

Remember when I said ‘mouthwatering’ French toasts? Of course you do. Well, this is exactly the place where you can have the best French toast in town. The bread is soft and dipped into butter and egg and perfectly toasted. Then, everything is topped with crunchy bacon and on the side a small pot of maple syrup. If you are not a French toast fan, there is still a wide range of choices: sourdough bread with avocado, chili flakes and feta, open sandwiches with chicken with apple, bacon and curry mayo and delicious cakes.

2. Frederick’s Coffe House

Someone said warm scones? Yes, yes I did. At Frederick’s you can find plain and fruit scones served all day. Isn’t this amazing? Moreover, they have soups and oven baked camembert with focaccia. But here at Frederick’s, it is not only about the food. Located at the first floor of a building on Frederick Street, you can also enjoy a marvelous view of the Edinburgh Castle and of Frederick Street itaself.

3. 1926

This is the best pizza you can find in Edinburgh. It is Neapolitan style and the restaurant uses Italian typical products such as San Marzano tomato, Mozzarella Fiordilatte, fennel sausages and the typical recipe from where the pizza was born: Naples. Naples is also the style inspiration for the restaurant, more specifically the name of it, 1926, is related to when the football team of the city was founded. The football team gears are hanging all around the place and not only they serve typical desserts from Italy (cannoli anyone?), they also make a good Espresso. Moreover, if you prefer to finish the meal with something strong, Limoncello is the best choice.

4. Choco Coro

You are strolling around town, perhaps on Princes Street and your sugar tooth starts hurting. A major sweet craving is stopping you to enjoy your shopping and you really have to satisfy it in order to keep on living your day. Don’t worry about it. Just go to Choco Coro. You can choose between waffles, crepes or pancakes with a lot of different toppings options like Oreos, salted caramel, toffees, Nutella, fruit and basically you name it and they have it.

5. Fishers

Located at the bottom of Leith Walk, very close to Ocean Terminal, this restaurant  – as you can imagine from its name – focusses mostly on fish dishes. The seafood served changes daily depending on what the catch of the day is. The place is very characteristic, situated under a stone tower and with furniture that makes you immediately think of a seaside location.

6. Harajuku Kitchen Japanese Bistro

If you miss proper sushi dishes or you have never tried them and you’d like to start with something delicious, then going to Harajuku Kitchen is best decision you can make. With succulent pork gyoza dumplings – available also every Sunday at the Stockbridge Market – and a wide range of sushi from nigiri to hosomaki, this place is located next to the Meadows for a post dining stroll or just to relax under a tree.

7. Clarinda’s Tea Room

At the bottom of Canongate, there is this cute but quite kitsch tea room where you can enjoy a typical Scottish Breakfast, homemade scones and a wide variety of cakes including carrot cake, Victoria sponge and apple cake with frosting. Why do I chose ‘kitsch’ to describe it? Well, let’s just say that the fancy tea pots and plates on the walls, some Royal family pictures, tablecloths with various patterns and a mixture of tables and chairs give pretty much the idea out.

Among the list of delicious burgers, you can find one with pomegranate glazed pulled lamb, roasted pepper mayo, crispy fried onions and everything topped with crumbled feta. A special mention for the American style sweet potato fries with coconut and maple syrup. They are still in my dreams.
