10 Summer Rom Coms To Watch With Your Summer Fling

Summer is the perfect time to catch up on movies. If you have a summer fling and need date ideas, spend a day watching romantic comedies, both old and new. Don’t know what to watch? Here’s the official list of classic summer rom coms:

1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

This 2003 rom com tells the story of two journalists who are each working on a story that involves the other person. She’s trying to write a story about losing a guy in 10 days while he’s trying to show his readers how to win a girl over in the same time frame. Comedy ensues in their journalistic quest.

2. The Philadelphia Story

The Philadelphia Story, released in 1940, is a tale of a Philadelphia socialite who splits from her husband and ends up meeting three new guys. After realizing she has feelings for all three men, she must decide which one she will pursue. It’s one of the best summer rom coms for the classy lady of today.

3. Love Actually

Love Actually tells the story of nine characters and how they experience love in each of their lives. Each character has their own experience with being in love and how their lives entwine with it. The film was released in 2003 and remains a classic. Even though it isn’t set in summer, I’m sure you can find a way to steam up this winter special.

4. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Released in 2001, Bridget Jones’s Diary is the story of a 32-year-old woman who decides to take control of her life and keep a diary at the dawn of a new year. Her diary becomes filled with her adventures and the opinions she holds on a variety of topics, from food to her sex life. Sounds relatable!

5. The Proposal

The Proposal,  a 2009 rom-com starring Sandra Bullock, tells the story of a woman who is facing deportation back to Canada. She meets a guy and they are planning to get married, but there are a few obstacles in the way. Namely, that he has no interest in marrying her. Despite the issues and a lurking immigration official, she does everything in their power to go through with marriage and avoid deportation.

6. You’ve Got Mail

You’ve Got Mail is the unlikely love story of a two bookstore owners: she owns a boutique, and he owns a chain. They despise each other in real life, but when they meet online, they end up falling in love and they must reconcile this conflict of their own hearts. The film was released in 1998 and stars Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. It’s one of my favorite summer rom coms for any pair who were born in the wrong era–after Tom Hanks’ full hair.

7. Knocked Up

This 2007 film is the story of a rising journalist who has a one-night stand with a “slacker” and ends up pregnant. They are faced with the questions of whether or not they are fit to be parents and lifetime partners, but they decide to give it a chance to see what happens. Of course, it doesn’t go as smoothly as they might plan.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

In this modern spin on Shakespeare’s classic Taming of the Shrew10 Things I Hate About You, features Kat, a beautiful and smart girl, but one who’s a bit harsh towards her peers. She rarely attracts men, but her younger sister (and polar opposite) is unable to date until Kat does. At last, a new guy comes to town, and Kat is attracted to him–and he likes her too. This flick is perfect for anyone who wants to break out of the classic vein.

9. Never Been Kissed

This Drew Barrymore rom com tells the story of an investigative journalist who gets an assignment to go undercover as a student in a Chicago high school. During her assignment, she falls in love with her English teacher. Follow her as she gets the inside story–and tries not to sacrifice her career in the process.

10. Crazy, Stupid, Love

This 2011 film stars Julianne Moore as Emily and Steve Carell as Cal. The film is about a couple who seemingly has it all together–until she asks for a divorce. So, with the help of an actor, played by Ryan Gosling, Cal learns how to win over the ladies.
