5 Struggles Of Being A Transfer Student At SJU

Sometimes being a transfer student can be daunting. I transferred to SJU in Spring 2016, and it was honestly one of the best choices I’ve made for myself. But if you’ve ever transferred schools before, I’m sure you can feel me on some of these! Keep reading for 5 struggles of being a transfer student at SJU!

1. Not knowing anyone.

It’s easy to be intimidated by first-day vibes, especially when everyone has known each other since they started college.

2. Confusing the gate numbers.

Pro tip: Gate 4 is behind Taffner and Gate 5 is behind Carnesecca.

3. Starting your GPA from 0.00.

This one is both a pro and a con. You can’t jump straight into study abroad programs, but it does provide a clean slate for your grades if you’ve had a few classes you weren’t proud of in the past. Either way, it’s a good incentive to get back on the grind.

4. Getting used to walking all over campus.

Like those five minutes between your first and second classes of the day, but the first one is in DAC and the second is all the way on the 3rd floor of St. John’s Hall.

5. Rides on the “Struggle Bus.”

Not just for the transfer students, but also for the commuter students: I know you know what’s coming. One of the many benefits of going to SJU is the many routes you can take to get there. But no route is as simultaneously convenient as it is crowded as the Q46 bus from Kew Gardens.

All this aside, breathe easy! You may have taken a little more time than others to get here, but you’ve got so much ahead of you!
