How I Stay Motivated During A Workout In My Most Tired Moments

Working out can feel like both a gift and a curse. For those of us who work out regularly or are just starting to get into being active, finding the motivation to work out can be a drag. Whenever I could feel a wave of laziness coming on, I use a few tips and tricks to keep me on track. Here are my go-to tips to stay motivated during a workout.

1. Set A Goal

Setting a goal is a sure way to get you through that last rep on your workout. A goal doesn’t have to be a huge commitment. It can be anything from fitting into that outfit for a summer wedding or simply getting through running on the treadmill for 20 minutes without stopping. Every time you feel like you can’t get through a workout, just remember what your goal is and keep working towards it for each session. Before you know it, all your goals will be met. Just keep moving forward! Pun intended! This is another way to stay motivated during a workout.

2. Set a Work Out Time

Nowadays, everyone is on some sort of schedule. Work. School. Family Time. It can seem overwhelming to set time aside for a workout, but if you think of  “workout time” as another appointment on your agenda, it will just become part of your routine. Your workout time doesn’t even have to happen on the same hour everyday! Look through your agenda and find where your workout fits best for that day. The important thing is that you fit in a workout even if its just for 10 or 20 minutes. Besides there is nothing more satisfying than being able to check something off of your list.

3. Change It Up

Doing the same thing everyday can get boring. As humans, we need stimulation to keep us engaged in the things we do. Working out is no different! If you are doing the same exercises every time you go to the gym or watch the same workout video at home, you are bound to get bored! Instead, use every workout session as a chance to try new things. Have you been curious about Zumba? Take a class! Go on a hike! Try boxing! Relax with some yoga. SoulCycle? Sure! Though there are benefits to doing routine exercises, it won’t hurt you to change it up every once in a while. Go on and explore! This is another way to stay motivated during a workout.

4. Get a Workout Buddy

Make working out fun by asking your friends to join you! There is no better way to get motivated to workout than having a friend by your side. A friend will keep you from hitting that snooze button in the morning and they make great conversation partners on hikes. Not to mention, they could be your cheerleaders when it comes to finishing that last rep or suffer through the pain of a partner workout. If you’re a little more competitive, a friend could help you challenge yourself during workout until you’ve accomplished your fitness goals! It’s  a win win! This is another way to stay motivated during a workout.

5. Think Positively

The key to staying motivated is to think positively about the outcome. Next time you are struggling to get  out of bed, think about how much more energized you are going to feel after your workout. Every workout you finish is a step closer to a stronger body and a healthier you! Think of the long term benefits that a good workout will have. Not only will you look good, but staying healthier could help you live longer. Think of all the positives whenever you are struggling to decide whether or not a workout is worth it.
