15 Signs You Went To Poly Prep in NYC

You know you went to Poly Prep in NYC if you've broken the dress code more than once and had chicken and rice for lunch more times than you can count.

Going to a small private school has its ups and downs. No matter what, when you leave you’ll look back on these qualities and all of the good memories they brought you. So here are 15 signs you went to Poly Prep in NYC.

1. You always get asked if your school is anything like Gossip Girl.

Yeah funny thing, because not really…

2. You had a “strict” dress code.

Which consisted of no jeans, no athletic wear and button downs. But realistically did we really follow it…?

3. We broke the dress code so much they had to change it.

Of course I will be sporting my leggings every day of the week from now own. Dress code me now, howbowdah!

4. Dress Up Days were a thing.

Every morning in homeroom, the morning before chapel, the Deans would remind you to dress in your best outfit for the special day. But then there’s always that one kid that “forgot” despite the constant reminders and emails.

5. Chapel, Chapel, Chapel…

We met twice a week to get “cultured.” All I will say is “t’was interesting…”

6. Football games were nothing like Friday Night Lights.

I wish it were all “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t loose,” but people rarely showed up to games, unless it was Homecoming. If you went, you tried to make it as lit as possible. It’s the thought that counts right?

7. Gossip spreads like wildfire.

The school is small. If anything happened, odds are the whole grade and their mother knew about your business that you swore you’d try and keep on the low. SMH you should know better.

8. Our campus was basically a small private liberal arts college.

Were we a college campus or a high school? You could never tell at first with the two ponds, security guards, manicured landscape and the Geese.

9. Transportation to school was a blessing.

Having the luxury of school buses to and from school, including the legendary “6 o’clock bus.” #Blessed

10. Treasuring our student MetroCard.

When it came to traveling to and from school on weekends, thank God for our NYC school MetroCard (especially when we had off and public school didn’t).

11. You got used to having lunch at 10:45 A.M.

Yeah that was basically breakfast and you instantly became hungry again by 1:45 P.M.

12. Chicken and rice was the official meal.

Chances are, nine out of ten times lunch was chicken and rice. Better get used to it.

13. You played a sport.

…And if you didn’t you most likely managed one of the million sports at least once to get that activities credit.

14. Being the only Ivy League school in Brooklyn.

That meant in order to go to away games, you had to trek as far as the Bronx, but you got to leave class early so I ain’t mad.

15. Being a Lifer

Being a lifer = you’ve been there for too damn long. Thirteen or fourteen years in one place… yeah we’re ready to get out!
