10 Rising Female Musicians To Look Out For This Year

Music seems to be a common language that we share, something we all enjoy! Without further ado here are 10 rising female musicians you’ll want to look out for in this new year ahead!

These days, it’s easier than ever to discover new music through social media or services like Spotify, Pandora and SoundCloud. Whether you’re more of a mainstream pop fan or a hard core rock/punk lover, there is something out there for everyone. Music seems to be a common language that we share, something we all enjoy! 10 rising female musicians you’ll want to look out for in this new year ahead!

1. Maggie Rogers

With praises from Pharell Williams, this twenty three year old Maryland native is making
a name for herself. At the age of seven, Rogers could play the harp and later learned the
piano as well as the guitar. Some of her musical inspirations include: Carrie Brownstein,
Patti Smith, Kim Gordon and Björk. If you’re capitvated by folk, dance and R&B music,
give her a listen as it can be traced in her musical style. Listen to this artist if you like

2. Tove Styrke

Talent runs in the family as her father’s band landed a number one hit on the Swedish
radio chart in 1975. Raised and born in Umea, Sweden, this twenty five year old has
already had immense success with her career. Styrke’s first album “Tove Styrke” spent
35 weeks on the top album chart and later was certified gold then platinum. Her second
single, “White Light Moment,” was nominated for song of the year at the Swedish
Grammy awards. If that’s not enough, she was recognized in The New York Post’s “10

3. ALMA

This twenty two year old Finnish singer songwriter has already recieved recognition
from Annie Mac to MistaJam and has worked on songs with fellow musician MØ. In
addition, ALMA has performed with Jorja Smith, as well as The Amazons, at the Radio 1
Future Festival. Hard to miss in a crowd, you can easily spot this upcoming pop star
with her signature neon chartreuse hair. In 2017, her single “Chasing Highs” rose to #10 on the Finnish singles chart and rose to popularity in the UK making it to the top 20 hits.

4. Awkwafina

Not only is she known for rapping and producing, she’s officially more than a triple
threat. In addition, Nora Lum is a comedian, TV comedian, TV host and actress. In both
classical and jazz, Lum was trained as she played the trumpet in her younger days. In
2014 her album Yellow Ranger was part of a lineup at Tenacious D ‘s Festival Supreme
and later was added in the third season to the cast of the tv show Girl Code. A year later
she starred in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Dude, Storks and Oceans Trilogy/Ocean’s
8. Fast forward to 2017, she was announced to be in the movie Crazy Rich Asians and has

5. CL

Even though twenty seven year old Lee Chae-rin was born in Korea, much of her early
life was spent in Japan and France. When she was thirteen, Chae-rin moved to Paris by
herself and studied school there for a couple of years. Eventually she became part of the
South Korean girl band 2NE1 which landed #1 song of the year in 2009 with their single
“I Don’t Care”. Later that year she announced she would be going into her own solo career
teaming up with American Scooter Braun as her manager. Credited by Time magazine
as the “future of kpop in america”. To top if all off Chae-rin performed at the 2018

6. Charlotte Lawrence

In 2014, Lawrence released her first single, “The Finish Line,” and released her another
single, “Ever After.” A Los Angeles native, this seventeen year old is a fresh new face to
the music industry and is sure to find her own amongst the fans whose hearts she has
already captured. Her songs are very relatable as they cover everyday things that most of
us go through. A unique mix of smooth pop and waves of notes pleasing to the ear,
Lawrence is sure to be someone who you will want to look out for this year. Listen to this

7. Bülow

From moving to places like the Netherlands, England, Germany and Texas, she has
credited songwriting as a form of therapy, helping her get through transitions such as
moving from school to school. Not only did her single, “This Is Not a Love Song,” receive
almost 300,000 plays, but after her first EP was released she was named “New Artist of
The Week” by Apple Music Canada. Only eighteen years old, she has come a long way

8. Jaira Burns

Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Burns began her career uploading covers of songs,
such as “Someone Like You,” by Adele. Eventually her own songs received attention such as her single, “Ugly,” which was featured in a commercial for a pair of headphones starring
Kylie Jenner. She also joined Australian born musician Wafia on her North American
tour. Burns next single was released and receives recognition as she continues
to gain popularity among fans and crowds. Her music can be described as chill and laid

9. Yaeji

This twenty four year old New Yorker stands out as she blends quiet background vocals of
Korean and English in her music. Yaeji’s style can be described as EDM, as she mainly

successfully released two EPs, her second one receiving an immense amount of
positive feedback. She’s received praise from a number of magazines and broadcasting
stations such as Pitchfork, Fader, Boiler Room, The New Yorker and NPR. Listen to this

10. Peggy Gou

Although she has not had a big break, Gou is loved by those on the underground scene.
They describe her music as “dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract

Music, with a unique style as she learned to beat match during her time in Korea. Gou
has played many gigs with artists around the world including Moodymann, the Black
Madonna and Jackmaster. Combining both Korean and English, her audience is sure to
