Most of us are going a few months of the COVID-19 quarantine. Although we have been staying inside and doing the best we can during these trying times, it can get very tiring and overwhelming to stay calm and productive. Not to worry we have some tips on how to keep yourself from going crazy in quarantine.

Get Outside

Being stuck inside can make our worlds seem confined and small. Getting outside can make the world seem big again. So, get some fresh air and stretch your legs. You can go for a walk, go to a park, go on a hike, take a drive, or even sit on your porch. Simply being outside can reduce stress levels, calm your mind, and promote positive energy. So, take a deep breath, soak up the sun’s rays, and allow it to melt away all the negative energy.

Call Friends

If you haven’t reached out to friends yet then you should. Remember we are all in this together, and we are all feeling the same craziness. A text or a like on social media is all fine and well, but calling or video chatting is even better. It’s the closest to face-to-face that we will get right now, but it still has similar effects. Having good, meaningful conversations with good friends is a great way to help you feel connected and not alone, which in turn makes you stronger and in better spirits.

Adopt A Pet

Pet adoption is becoming extremely popular during this quarantine. We all could use a furry friend to help get us through this trying time. It has been said that pets provide companionship that can help lower stress hormones, calm nerves, and improve your overall happiness. People who have pets actually live longer and are generally more positive people.

There are also thousands of pets who could really use good homes during this crazy time in our world. Consider saving a pet who in turn, might just save you.

Meditate

You’ve probably seen this suggestion about meditating over and over again. There’s a simple reason as to why; it works. Meditation allows you to step away from the TV, computer, your phone, and all the overwhelming energy of the world today and get quiet and calm your body and mind. Even if you don’t know where to begin, you don’t need to be Yoda in order to get started.

Simply, find a quiet place in your home, sit in a comfortable place, and focus on your breathing. You can also start with just 5 minutes a day and work your way up. Once you make it a part of the routine you’ll be glad you did.

When are you going to have more time on your hands than right now, during this quarantine? This is the perfect opportunity to learn something new. This can be an instrument, cooking, baking, working out, yoga, painting, and much more. Not only will you come out this a more developed and educated person, but you now have a new skill you can show off to all your friends! Use this as a chance to not just kill time, but to make the most of it.

Clean Up Your Space

If you’re starting to go a little crazy during the quarantine, it’s probably fair to say you let your environment around you reflect that. Start cleaning and organizing your home. Start in one room and make your way around the whole house. It’s been said that if your space is clean, neat, and organized it makes it easier for people to think and become relaxed.

This can also be a great opportunity to sell, donate, and trash unwanted items. Nothing feels better than to be rid of old things. It can make you feel lighter and more receptive to receiving new things, like re-decorating your home. Make your space a brand new home to match a brand new you.

Take a moment and step away from your TV, computer, or phone and pick up a book. There’s just something about books that calm us, open up and exercise our imagination, and improve our moods. If you’re not into reading, give it a try. Take it from someone who hated reading growing up, you might discover that you, in fact, are a reader. You just have to find the right book and be willing to sit still and concentrate for a few moments. There are also audiobooks available if you more of a listener than a visual learner.

Journal

With all these built-up emotions, thoughts, and energies it can be hard to express them, especially if you’ve been alone for most of the quarantine. Take a break and write down all that you are feeling. This is your own, private practice so you can write whatever you want and there is no judgment. This can help you release all of these feelings instead of holding them in. It also allows you to organize your thoughts, notice patterns, and heal.

Even if you’re not feeling negative, you can write down positive messages for yourself, quotes, or draw some pictures. This is your journal, it is your chance to just be you; just in written form.

Treat Yourself

Self-care and self-love really need to come in to play during this quarantine. That’s right, buy yourself something nice. This can be a tasty treat like some fast food, Starbucks, or some icecream. It can also be something online like clothes, makeup, or electronics. Money doesn’t buy happiness but it sure can improve your mood.

Treating yourself also doesn’t have to be just buying yourself something. It can also be just being kind to yourself. Have a spa day, layout in the sun, take a break from work, and watch a good movie. The options are endless, it’s really up to you about how you want to treat yourself.
