How To Create A Spring Break Budget

Creating a spring break budget is not as complicated as it seems. Some forethought before your trip will allow you to have the time of your life without all the worry. Make sure to read this list in order to plan a trip that you won’t soon forget!

1. Travel

Traveling to your destination for spring break is probably going to be your biggest expense. If you are driving, calculate your gas and rental car (if applicable) into your budget. If you are flying, check out apps and sites that will track down the cheaper flights for you such as kayak and hopper. Watch for red eyes (overnight flights) for a cheaper way to go. Also, if you are flying try to pack only a carry on to save the expense of a checked bag.

2. Lodging

Check out the accommodations around your destinations and see what they have to offer. If you are abroad, see if there are any hostels which tend to be a cheaper way to sleep. Just make sure the ratings are high and no bed bugs. You can also check out airbnb to see if it is cheaper than the hotels in the area. Make sure to check out all the options for your destination.

3. Food

A spring break budget should always have a high focus on food no matter the type of trip. A great way to save on food is shopping at a grocery store for easy made meals rather then eating out all the time. You can budget in a couple of dinners or brunches at restaurants, but the best way to save money for other things is the make your food at your home base. A spring break budget should be focused more on the entertainment than your meals.

4. Drinks

If you are looking to enjoy some drinks make sure to write that into your spring break budget. Alcohol can be expensive in the nightlife so a great tip is to purchase alcohol when you go grocery shopping to pregame at your home base. That way you can enjoy some drinks out but it won’t cost you too much to get that happy buzz. Also, check out the places you are going to and see if you they have a happy hour and make sure to hit up those spots. A little research goes a long way for your spring break budget.

5. Pack Student ID

That magic little card will come in handy. When heading to a typical spring break location it can be the magic gateway into saving a lot of cash. Make sure to pack it when you are heading out and research places that will give you a discount for having your student ID. There is a lot of power that little card wields. Also, make sure to ask the front desk or host if they have any suggestions for places that would give a student discount.

6. Events

If you are heading to a certain event, make sure to set cash aside for your entertainment for your spring break budget. Check out the places you want to visit beforehand and budget the amount of cover charge for those spots. This will save you the stress of going into debt in order to visit all the places you wanna go and will help you plan out your itinerary.

Your spring break budget should help you plan a stress free and debt free trip that you won’t soon forget. It’s not as hard as you think! What are your tips to help you budget a great spring break trip? Let us know in the comments below.
