How To Create A Cosy And Inviting Dorm Room

Dorm rooms are your home away from home, they need to be a space where you look forward to coming back to after classes. It needs to offer you a feeling of serenity and peace. There is a multitude of ways you can accomplish this, however! It can be daunting if you have no idea where to start. So here are some ways that you can create a cosy and inviting dorm room, as well as super cute! that you will love coming back to!

The Bed

One can think of the bed as the heart of the room. This is a great place to start when deciding on colour schemes and it is a less overwhelming way to start decorating your room if you start in one area and work your way around. The bed is where you will spend a lot of your time if you don’t spend a lot of your time at your desk studying. Think of how you can make your bed the plushest and comfortable place possible, its all about making the cosiest dorm. Don’t just have one pillow on your bed, have a couple, have some decorated ones and possibly even some European ones if you want to go all out. Your bed is your sanctuary so don’t hold back. Pick a doona cover that makes you feel calm peaceful. That is the aura you should create in your dorm. Grab a throw blanket as well to create layers and cosiness. This is is the first step to creating an inviting and cosy dorm.

Textures

Creating textures is a step that many don’t think about when it comes to creating a cosy space. Think throw blankets, pillows, and rugs. Don’t just restrict pillows and throws to the bed, drape them over a chair, extend the cosy factor all around the dorm to make sure it all ties together nicely. Creating texture will make the space feel more inviting, it will feel less harsh and perfect, it will feel more lived it, like it is your space that you can nestle into. This will create the ultimate cosy dorm. Include a variety of different textures, such as a throw blanket that is a thick woven weave and a pillow that has tassels, or faux fur. Include any textures that speak to you. This helps you to create a warm, cosy and inviting dorm room.

Lights

Lights are truly the best way to create a warm and romantic setting in your dorm. They are cheap to buy and to run, as many run on batteries. Warm white is the best way to create cosy vibes. String them along the walls, the ceiling, above the desk, around the bed head. Wherever your heart desires. You will have the ultimate cosy dorm. Warm white fairy lights emit a subtle, delicate light that is not overwhelming or harsh. Every dorm room needs fairy lights to be cosy! This is a must-have for a cosy and inviting dorm room.

Colours

When it comes to colour schemes, there are not many rules, whichever colour feels right for you. The cosiest colours are whites, creams, pale pinks, colours that are subtle and clean, but not bright. Subtle colours blend together with the warm, white, light of the fairy lights perfectly. Don’t think that you have to stick to one colour either, mixing together muted tones of cream, beige, white, grey, pink and any other natural and subtle colours, will go together perfectly! Your dorm room will be looking cosy and inviting in no time!

Create Areas

The last tip I can give is to create different areas within the room. Dorm rooms are small, however, try to create separate areas to make it feel like your own little house, most dorm rooms will come with a desk as well as the bed, so extend the cosiness from the bed to the desk, to make sure it ties together. In between the two spaces add a small ottoman, or armchair, this will act as a kind of sitting area. This will also add to the cosy factor. Adding wall hangings will also bring extend to the cosiness to the walls, and can help to separate the areas you create. This is the ultimate inviting factor to your dorm room as it invites people to come and sit in your new cosy room!
