7 Hairstyles For the Awkward Growing Out Stage of a Bob

The awkward stages of growing out a bob have to be one of the most difficult hair decisions any woman has ever made. Constantly stuck between wanting to cut all of your hair off again and wanting to have long mermaid hair. Here are 7 hairstyles to help you grow out your bob, and avoid the awkward stages in the meantime.

1. The Low Bun

A classic hairstyle, for even when your hair isn’t at an awkward length, is the classic low bun. While this hairstyle is super simple, it’s the perfect style for during the awkward stages of growing out a bob. Using only a hair tie, scrunchie, or even hair scarf, some bobby pins, and hair spray, this look is easily achievable. This style looks great on all hair lengths and all parts, whether it be middle or side. It’s also the perfect go-to for any and all events. Looks great dressed up and even lounging out home in your sweats! This low bun can be changed easily with a variety of accessories as well.  Make it messy one day and sleek the next and you’ve just created two different looks.

2. The Faux French Pull-Through Braid

While your hair might not be long enough to actually braid at your current stage of growing out your bob, this hairstyle is perfect for any length! Instead of actually french braiding your hair, all you’ll do is section your hair into 3-4 sections. The first section is then placed in a clear plastic elastic and flipped within itself so it now looks twisted. You repeat this for the following sections while gathering hair around the previous sections and boom, you have a faux french braid. My personal favorite is to make two faux french braids and gather them into little buns. This hairstyle is easily done with only some clear hair elastics and possibly bobby pins (depending on the length of your hair).

3. The Half-Up Messy Bun

This hairstyle might possibly be the easiest and most used hairstyle on this entire list. Take the classic half up half down look and turn the part that’s half up into a messy bun. This hairstyle is perfect to grab the few awkwardly long pieces at the front of your bob and pull them back and out of your face. This hairstyle solves the issue of pulling those pieces back while still allowing you to wear a decent amount of your hair down. Now if your bob had bangs, this would be the time to let those bad boys down. They’re the perfect fringe to spruce up this classic look. This hairstyle looks great on everyone and perfect for any hair length.  All you need is a single hair tie! The messier the bun the better.

4. Classic Space Buns

Space buns have been quite the trend as we are approaching summer. This hairstyle is great for adding a little oomph to any outfit.  It’s also perfect for hiding any awkward layers that may have occurred as your hair grows out of your previous bob hairstyle.  This hairstyle can be changed in a variety of ways by things as simple as adding decorative clips and scrunchies to french braiding each section up into the space bun. This hairstyle is perfect for 3-4 day hair and great for all occasions. This hairstyle is super popular among the festival-goers this season! This is easy to accomplish with only two hair ties.

5. Low Messy Space Buns

Take the previous look and switch it up even more. Instead of placing the space buns directly on top of your head, take them and place them at the nape of your neck.  This look is especially great for those whose hair on the back of their head is shorter.  Low space buns are perfect for all hair lengths and can be customized just like classic space buns.  All space buns can be made messy or sleek depending on the look you’re trying to achieve. The messy look can be achieved by pulling out some pieces to frame your face and making the actual buns messy as well. A sleeker look can be made by slicking back the hair, creating a sleek low bun, and making the space buns as compact as possible. The low messy space buns are also easily achieved with only two hair ties.

6. Braid It Back

This is a great option for any of the previous hairstyles.  Take the front section of your hair and french braid it back. This look is great for those especially with longer front pieces in their hair. Braiding it back allows anyone to avoid showing those long awkward pieces that grew out funny with your bob.  While this hairstyle can be added to most of the previous hairstyles, its a great option on its own if your hair is a little longer as well. It’s perfect for pulling your hair out of your face!  If french braiding isn’t your thing, you could always try using the faux french braid pull-through method instead!

7.  Bun Faux Hawk

This hairstyle is perfect for any girl whose awkward stages of growing out a bob has left them with a variety of different lengths within their hair. It is a great way to pull all your hair back even if your hair isn’t at a length to put it all up in one ponytail. The bun faux hawk allows for multiple smaller sections to be put together and gathered, thus pulling all of your hair back and into a messy style.  Rock this hairstyle with any look.  Great for not only lounging at home but for a night on the town.  In my opinion, this hairstyle is easily achieved with only a few clear hair elastics and some bobby pins. The messier the better, so I suggest not equally sectioning your hair for this!
