10 Great Cargo Styles For Guys This Fall

It would be a sin to turn a blind eye on how cargo styles have taken over. I used to wear them, but that was twelve years ago. And I was at Boy Scout camp. Recently though, it’s become a thing. The casual look of cargo pants, and even shorts, on people our age is filling the casual fashion market.  So what’s what in the cargo world? Here ya go…

1. Slim-Fit Cargo Pants

Cargo pants are not known for being flattering on your lower half. I like to wear a slim pair of pants that brings the shape of my legs out. Don’t compromise your figure just to wear another baggy pair of cargo pants. A slim-fit pair of cargo pants will allow you not to compromise.

Try This Look:

2. Cargo Joggers

Because of the bagginess and wrinkled material of cargo joggers, we tend to be lackadaisical with our top. Don’t forget that the defining look of your cargo joggers is the way they eventually cling to your ankles. Thus, a solid-colored or striped tee (vertical striped preferred) will perfect the look. Make sure this tee fits you well: it will match the way the joggers cling to your ankles and create that sharp look you want. Find the quintessential cargo joggers at zanerobe.com.

3. Ripstop cargo pants

Ripstop cargo pants are your alternative to the slim-fit or cargo joggers. Either you don’t like wearing pants that will show the shape of your legs, or you’re bigger and taller than most guys, and still want to wear up-to-date cargos: ripstops are made for you. Ripstop cargo pants are made with the same cut-proof, ultra durable, and thick material that military grade pants are made of. They will have a more loose look, and will scream rigidity, rather than artsy fluidity. You feel? Look at these pictures below of men wearing Ripstop cargo pants.

4. Camo Cargo Shorts

The cargo shorts we grew up with were one thing, but today’s cargo shorts are completely different. Whether they’re dressed in camo, frayed at the bottom, or have drawstrings at the bottom of the legs, today’s cargo shorts just look more relevant. The camo cargo shorts look will only be fresh if you pull off a top that matches well. Stick with the colors that will be on your shorts (green, white, grey, black), and orange or yellow. These can come in any shirt, from a graphic tee to a polo. Colors to avoid are blue, purple and pink. This pair of slim, camouflage and tattered edge shorts are not easy to find online, but I did the diggin’ for ya and all you have to do is the clickin’ right here. Don’t like that pair? Try these, or these.

5. Short Cargo Shorts

Turn the game on its side by wearing these short cargo shorts from the same brand that we recommend for your cargo joggers: Zanerobe. If you have muscular legs you want to show off, tattoos, or you just feel better in shorter shorts, go with this look. Tie the outfit together with a white tee on top and get on with your day.

Try This Look:

6. Guys Under 6 Feet Tall

This goes for all shorts. One thing for us guys under 6 feet tall to remember is that when our shorts go past our knees, or when they even lie on our knees, we lose major style points in several ways. The first is that we look shorter. The second is that we look dumpy. And the third is that we lose sex appeal. When people can see your knee, they get a complete picture of your body. Cargo shorts tend to be baggy and go past the knee. If you want to beat this, wear the shorts from above, or search for other shorter pairs online.

7. Quarter Zip With Cargos

The quarter zip with cargos can either go on top of a collared shirt or a cotton tee. See our next cargo hack that is quite similar.

Throw a sweater on top of your cargo pants, and you have one of our most approachable and mature Fall cargo styles.

9. White Cargo Pants

Don’t be afraid of white cargo pants or just white pants in general. There are white cargos you can find that have the panache of a white pair of dress pants (See this pair from Jacquemus).  Your most safe route with white cargo pants is a dark top, but the bold white color should not dissuade you from wearing light colored tops. You will also look good in a white short sleeved tee with a thin jacket. 10. Cargos With A Jacket

Cargo pants topped off with a jacket secures the formal look you’re afraid of losing when you throw some cargos on. Pair them with a blazer or my favorite, a bomber jacket. See this one at J.Crew, in either Rustic olive color or Navy. My advice is not to have the jacket be too puffy, or run past the line of your crotch. The jacket will overpower.
