Glasses Trends To Look For When You’re Considering Getting New Frames

Whether you’re going to your local optometrist to get your latest and greatest pair of frames or you’re doing a little online shopping, it can be easy to be both thrilled and then overwhelmed by the burden of choice. There are so many cool frames out there, and this decision is (hopefully) supposed to end up in the pair of glasses you’ll be wearing for the next couple of years. (No pressure).

One way you can help narrow it down is to use sites like Warby Parker which allow you to try on five pairs at home…you can even return them and try on five more pairs without being charged.

Other stores like Zenni have options where you can click “try on” and test out a pair of glasses on a specific model’s face to get an idea of how it might look on yours. Or, you can upload your own picture and see! (I did not try this when I ordered my first pair of prescription sunglasses, and they are fairly big for my face. Ah well, live and learn).

But even with these online options to help narrow things down, it can still be overwhelming to click on any online glasses store and discover they have “hundreds” of styles to choose from! Where do you even begin?

Don’t worry, we’ve got a little round-up of the main trends to help make your decision that much easier.

Round Wire Frames

Round glasses frames are a classic look, reminiscent of twentieth-century Irish writers, or that hipster soft boy you like on the internet. Go for thick frames for maximum quirkiness, or stick with wire for that vintage aesthetic. They come in all sizes, but sometimes bigger is better. The choice is up to you.

Wayfair Look

For a more modern-ish look, there are the ‘Wayfair’ shaped glasses, not quite rectangles and not quite round, they’re a stylish shape that suits most faces. Get them with a trendy metal bridge in the middle if you like, either way, you can’t go wrong.

Pop of Color

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, purple… These rectangle glasses stand out more for their color than their shape, though both can make a statement. “I’m smart, but chic,” they seem to say. “I can read and have a good time.” We love a dynamic character.

Dramatic Cat Eye

Cateye glasses are like winged eyeliner, the bigger, and bolder the wing, the fiercer the wearer. You can get them in all shades of gray (or the rainbow), but there’s something about the classic black look. These frames say you’re a classy chick, but you’re not afraid to get a little freaky. We can respect that.

Clear/Octagonal:

Clear and/or Uniquely shaped glasses: For all your Coming Of Age story needs. These can be a great way to both make a statement and show off your cut-crease. They both say ‘grandma glasses’ and ‘meet me at Coachella.’ All in all, it’s clear to see why people like these…pun intended.

Tortoise Shell

Admittedly, I have a tendency to fall for the classic tortoiseshell + rectangular shaped glasses combo, so I may be a little biased…but I think this is a great look. Whatever your hair, eye, or skin color, you can find the right tortoiseshell pattern that can bring out the highlights. 10/10, would recommend.
