1. Get Out On Lady Bird Lake
Whether you’re renting a kayak, canoe, or paddle board, you must get out on Lady Bird Lake any chance you get. Glide on the cool waters by yourself, or with friends as you enjoy the beautiful trees along the shoreline or a view of the Austin skyline!
2. Go To Zilker Park With Friends
Zilker Park is a huge green park in Austin that many people love to go play sports with their friends, have picnics, or just relax under the shade of a big tree. If you have a pup that loves to play, they will be the perfect companion for you on this activity!
3. Have Brunch/Lunch/Dinner On A Patio
Austin is full of amazing places to eat, and during the summertime the patios will fill up! Make reservations at a restaurant you want to try and ask to be seated on the patio.Austin is the live music capitol, so many places you can enjoy your food while listening to fun music.

4. Hike The Greenbelt
If you love the outdoors, then the Greenbelt is the place for you. You can hike or bike along the trails, climb some of the bigger rocks, and then jump into the water when you want to cool off! The Greenbelt is the perfect place to bring a picnic and your pup, and spend the day!
5. Mount Bonnell
Watch the sunset from the popular Mount Bonnell. Mount Bonnell gives a beautiful view of Lake Austin and the surrounding green hills, and it’s a perfect place to end a summer’s day in Austin, TX! You could even bring a picnic to the top to enjoy as you watch the sun go down.
6. Zilker Botanical Gardens
The Zilker Botanical Gardens is a beautiful place to explore on a summer day in Austin, TX. Walk along the path to see everything from a Japanese Garden to the butterfly trail for less than five dollars!
When your done, maybe even enjoy a delicious meal just down the road. You will have many options within walking distance all along Barton Springs Road!
7. Fly A Kite In The Park
If you find yourself in Austin at the end of March, grab a kite and head to Zilker Park for the Annual Kite Festival! This is a fun day where the sky above Zilker is filled with colorful kites. Don’t worry about bringing a picnic because Zilker Park will have food trucks there if you happen to get hungry!
Even if you’re not their for the festival, fly a kite in Zilker Park anyways. It’s surprisingly a really fun way to spend a few hours in Austin, TX!
8. Blues On The Green
During the summertime, Austin City Limits Radio brings a free music festival once a month to Zilker Park. Bring your friends and family, and enjoy a night of amazing music while sipping cool drinks and eating tasty food!
9. Movies In The Park
The Austin Park Foundations hosts free movies in the park every year. This is a really fun activity to spend an evening in Austin, TX. They will have food trucks and drinks as well, so don’t worry about having to bring food. Click here to find out which movie you will go see this summer!
10. Deep Eddy Pool
The historic Deep Eddy Municipal Pool is a perfect spot to cool off on a hot summer’s day. This cool spot is actually the first man made pool in Texas. Be sure to check it out whether you call Austin home, or are just passing through!
