LA is already expensive enough… Take a break from studying and get your fun fix with 10 FREE things to do around CSUN.
NO DRIVING REQUIRED…
Film major or not, you will love the movie screenings at the state-of-the-art Alan and Elaine Armer Theater in Manzanita Hall. The good news? Besides being free, all 130 seats are open to the public. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors!
At the CSUN Cinematheque, Professor Tim Halloran organizes and presents the “retrospectives of classic films, as well as aesthetically significant contemporary releases…”
Don’t miss the current John Cassavetes Retrospective and other upcoming events!
Are you an art addict? Enjoy free exhibitions at the West and VPAC Galleries. Currently on display: Faculty Sculpture Exhibition: Full and Part (one), Stone Sounds: 4000 Years at Sinop Kale, and Kathi Flood’s collages. Stay tuned…there is plenty more to come!
Beyond theater, the VPAC “offers a vibrant and diverse performance program of nearly 50 classical and popular music, dance, family, and international events…” Talk about a good time. Keep an eye out for their free events!
Every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., CSUN welcomes vendors from all walks of life: organic produce, artisan breads, jams and jellies, nuts, prepackaged foods, flowers, crafts, jewelry, and MORE!

A little driving required…
One of my favorite free museums in the city? The Griffith Observatory, of course! Enjoy a view of the city/Hollywood sign and some movie history. Did you know the James Dean classic, Rebel Without a Cause, was filmed there?
Take a break from the city and refresh your mind with the beauty of nature! The best trails around? Chatsworth Park South, Old Stagecoach Road, Topanga State Park, Fryman Canyon Park, or Runyon Canyon Park!
California is known for some of the most beautiful BEACHES in the world! Take a cruise and soak up the sun in Santa Monica, Venice, or Malibu.
You just never know who you will meet in La La Land! It is always fun to walk around the city and people-watch.
What are you waiting for? Get out there and explore!
