10 Female Artists Who Deserve More Recognition

There are a lot of female artists out there who don’t get the recognition they deserve. Here’s just 10 of them out of an innumerable amount that are a fantastic representation of the strong, powerful women we all have the power to be.

1. Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey is an alternative artist who has had her loyal fan base over the years. She has beautifully cumulated her own unique sound of alternative music that is definitely worth checking out. She has always been a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and has done work with charities supporting causes such as at-risk/disadvantaged youths and helping fund AIDS research. On top of being a phenomenally talented singer and songwriter, Lana Del Rey is among the many female artists who use their power to try and make a difference in the world.

2. Hayley Williams

The frontwoman and songwriter for the band Paramore, Hayley Williams is the epitome of a strong and powerful woman. Her voice holds so much power and her songwriting abilities are yet another testament to how great she is. Her (as well as the rest of the members of Paramore) are strong advocates for the charity To Write Love On Her Arms, which aims to encourage those dealing with self-harm, addiction, and a variety of mental illnesses to seek the help they deserve. She is truly a phenomenal performer and definitely one of many female artists who deserve more recognition.

3. Lorde

Hailing from New Zealand, Lorde is a singer-songwriter that deserves infinitely more recognition for all of her accomplishments in her short time in the industry thus far. Performing Coachella at the ripe age of 17 and writing her debut album at the age of 15 show just how much talent this young woman has in her. She has done a variety of charity work including supporting the Red Cross and charity auction site Charitybuzz. She has done amazing things in both her career and philanthropy-wise, and I’m sure this is just the start for her.

4. Solange

Solange recently released a new album, and it is incredible. She is an R&B/soul artist who happens to be related to Beyoncé, but stands in a league of her own, boasting impressive vocals and a massive amount of talent. Solange took part in a charity concert for Hurricane Harvey back in 2017 and is a supporter of various charities such as DKMS and Miss A Meal. Don’t count her out because she is one of the most talented female artists out there right now, hands-down.

5. Jhené Aiko

Jhené is an extremely talented alternative R&B artist who definitely deserves more recognition for her work. She founded her own charity, the WAYS Foundation, and is helping those in need in more ways than one. She created the WAYS Foundation in honour of her late brother Miyagi, who unfortunately passed due to cancer. She is always finding new and inventive ways to give back all while boasting an incredible amount of talent.

6. Janelle Monáe

She is the definition of an all-around talented woman. She can sing, she can dance, and her empowering lyrics showcase her diverse and phenomenal music. Her mentor was Prince, so you already know that this girl has some serious expertise and talent under her belt. She is one of many female artists who use their status for good, taking part in a charity single titled “This Is For My Girls” to empower young women, and being involved in a variety of charities such as Let Girls Learn and Keep a Child Alive, to name but a few. If you hadn’t heard of her prior, now you definitely need to check her out.

7. CupcakKe

This rap sensation deserves all the recognition she can get. Her hypersexualized lyrics are relatable to most of us deep down (even if we won’t admit it) and she is 100% unapologetically herself, which makes her all the more loveable. She is an open supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and is not afraid to stand up against racism every chance she gets. She truly is one of many female artists who deserve endless applause for her work both on and off the stage.

8. SZA

SZA is a remarkably talented artist who has such immensely powerful vocals that they really do speak for themselves. She has a unique neo soul sound that is unique to her, and all of her songs are staples in my own music library. From designing a sustainable clothing line for charity to using tour revenue to support hurricane relief, she is an all-around amazing artist and person.

9. Kacey Musgraves

While she has been gaining popularity as of recently, this Grammy-winning country singer deserves all of it. She brings a fresh and unique feel to country music that appeals to even those who aren’t the biggest fans of the genre. She has performed at a variety of benefit concerts and openly works with charities such as GLAAD, MusiCares, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is killing it both professionally and from a philanthropic standpoint; definitely a must-add to your list of favourite female artists.

10. H.E.R.

This Grammy-award winning singer and songwriter is taking the R&B world by storm, and rightfully so. Her music is definitely worth checking out because I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. She directs all of her work to young women going through any potentially similar situations and aims to inspire young women to be the best and strongest versions of themselves.
