The Dos And Don’ts Of Rutgers Orientation

If you’re about to enter into the world of Rutgers and are a little nervous, don’t fret. I’ve created the ultimate list of dos and don’ts of Rutgers orientation to ease any potential pre-college nerves.

DO stick with your group during tours of the campus.

Rutgers is ENORMOUS, so getting lost is a definite possibility. Stick with your tour group/upperclassman until you can comfortably navigate your way around campus on your own. Or you can use the bus system.

DON’T skip orientation.

You are paying for orientation – regardless of whether you go or not – so you might as well. Plus, you learn tons of important things about the university (like how Rutgers was the first university to host a football game) and your time here; and you get a bunch of free stuff (hello, free Rutgers gear)!

DO bring a notebook and pen (or something to write on).

You’re going to need something to jot down all you brand new information in, and you may not be able to get everything down on your phone (as well as possibly looking disrespectful). Bring a small notebook and a pen to help you remember all these new things you’re learning about your school!

DON’T hesitate to make friends.

This is your head start on your life at Rutgers, and it’s a very big school – 66,000+ students? WHAAAAAT? – so don’t hold back on meeting and connecting with new people at orientation. Who knows? They might be in your classes once they start, and could even go on to be your friends for life!

DO ask questions.

Don’t hold ‘em in! Make sure all your questions are answered so that you start college with a fresh, informed mind. Also, orientation leaders and staff love questions, because it gives them opportunities to explain more things to the rest of your class; so get inquisitive!

DON’T forget to have fun!

Rutgers orientation is the fun before classes start, so make sure to enjoy yourself while getting to know your new school and classmates at Rutgers! Have fun!
