DIY Projects To Improve Your Home With Minimal Expenses

Furniture can be so expensive and redecorating seems like a chore. But what other choice do you have when your home is in desperate need of an upgrade?

DIY projects are a fantastic alternative to purchasing expensive and unoriginal items for your home. This way, when you choose to do things yourself, you can play around, but also create something completely unique.

Here is our list of DIY projects to improve your home with minimal expenses!

1. Upgrading Your Bathtub

Of course, this one is only applicable to people who have a bathtub. But, it’s a very easy hack that needs to be shared, even if you don’t have a bathtub.

To create a bath caddy that is completely your own while still looking expensively vintage. Go to a local woodwork and purchase a simple wooden board! The thickness, colour and size is up to you as it depends on the size of your bath.

However, the more aged and imperfect it looks, the better this DIY project will turn out.

2. Reading Nook

Reading nooks are not only functional, but they create the illusion that there’s an extra place in the home. A reading nook allows privacy and you can create your own little haven. It doesn’t necessarily have to be used for reading a book, either!

With this DIY project, the easiest method is by using a curtain rod, preferably a circular one, and some curtains of your choice!

3. Floating Bookshelves

There is nothing more useful than a floating bookshelf. Not only does it lift items off the floor to allow the home to breathe more, but there’s also much more space for you to live in, too.

Floating bookshelves are really easy to make, especially if you choose to buy the wood and paint it yourself! If this isn’t what you’re into, you can find cheaper shelves and just install them yourself.

Bookshelves are handy everywhere in the home! They work in your bathroom for cosmetics and such, in your bedroom as a nightstand even and in your living room for junk.

4. Doormat

Doormats are literally one of the first things that guests notice before being welcomed into your home. Why not make a great first impression before you’ve even spoken?

DIY personalised doormats are a great way of letting people know who you are and what kind of personality you might have. Whether it’s a quirky joke or an inspirational quote, you can go crazy.

All you would need is a cheep bare doormat and paint to do the trick!

5. Abstract Painting

If you’ve been looking to spruce up your walls with paintings, but never thought you could find one affordable enough, then it’s your turn to try it out!

Painting your own art is important, because it will improve your skills as an artist and you might surprise yourself. Picture your friends complimenting you on your painting before they’ve realised that the artist is you.

Plus, with abstract, you have so much leeway– there are no rules.

6. Paint Your Stairs

If you’ve wanted to add a little colour to your stairs or even change the current state, then why don’t you just go ahead and do it?

All you need is paint specifically for wood and a paintbrush (of course, also tape so you avoid getting paint in places you don’t want paint). You can paint each step a different colour or stick to one shade of brown if that’s what you’re interested in.

Not only will it be polished, but it will change the whole mood of the house, too.

You might be thinking this one is a tricky one, but canopy beds are simple and quick. There are different ways of installing a canopy, but one of the easiest ways is a curtain rod around your bed. To elevate your canopy bed further, you can use thick designed curtain or even add fairy lights for a magical touch.

Garlands are cute and a quick way of improving your home in less than a few hours. If you don’t want to create your own garland from fresh eucalyptus, you can purchase plastic ones that will last you for a very long time.

That being said, the plant doesn’t have to be eucalyptus, either! You can choose whatever flower you want and simply stick together with string and glue.

Whether it’s above your bed or in your living room or around your windows, a garland works everywhere.
