Decadent Beverage Recipes For Those Cold Winter Mornings

A nice, warm beverage is a perfect way to start any cold, winter morning. Here are some winter beverage recipes to start your day on a high note!

1. Chai Tea Latte

One of the classic winter beverages that makes its debut in November usually is the chai tea latte. This is one that my friends order all the time and is a wonderful option if you want a warm beverage without the added caffeine of a coffee beverage. In order to make one for yourself at home, you will need chai spice black tea bags, whatever milk you prefer, honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It is seriously like drinking a hug from a mug and is so easy to make! The first step is to boil some water and steep the tea bags for a few minutes, approximately five minutes is the norm. Then, froth the milk to your liking, pour the tea into the mug followed by the frothed milk, and add cinnamon and nutmeg to taste. It is that simple! You can find specific measurements for all the ingredients on the Taste of Home website if you do not want to wing it.

2. Peppermint Hot Chocolate

This next beverage is something I always ordered from Starbucks in my middle school days, prior to the caffeine addiction that coffee blessed me with, peppermint hot chocolate. Again, this is a very simple recipe, which is great for those busy weekday mornings. You can make it really easy by simply making hot cocoa from a pre-made mix and then adding a peppermint stick to top it all off, or you take the homemade route. If you decide to make it from scratch, the ingredients you will need to make this winter wonderland of a beverage is milk, cocoa powder, peppermint extract, crushed candy cane, and a dash of salt. In order to make it from scratch, just put a medium saucepan overheat, and then combine all of the ingredients into the pan. Let it simmer on low for a while and whisk occasionally, then let it be on heat for ten minutes before pouring it into a festive ceramic mug. It is super quick and easy, plus it takes delicious! 3. Gingerbread Coffee

Now, if you are more of a morning coffee drinker as I am, then this will be your favorite of the winter beverage recipes! I have never had this one before, however, that is going to have to change this winter season. Gingerbread coffee sounds like the most festive winter beverage out there and is sure to be right up your alley if you are a fan of classic gingerbread cookies. To make this homemade coffee drink, you will need molasses, brown sugar, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, and of course, freshly brewed coffee. Once you have all of your ingredients laid out, combine the molasses, brown sugar, baking soda, and cinnamon together into a bowl and let it chill in the fridge for ten minutes. Then, simply add coffee to each cup containing the chilled mix you created earlier and top with whipped cream! 4. Pumpkin Apple Cider

This next one is something that is a bit of a call back to autumn but is good throughout the entire holiday season as well, a good old fashioned mug of hot apple cider with a bid of pumpkin for extra goodness. According to The Crumby Kitchen website, in order to make this for yourself and your loved ones you will need the following ingredients: sliced apples, cinnamon sticks, water, pumpkin puree, brown sugar, lemon juice, and pumpkin pie spice. First, you will add your apples, after you have chopped them, and spices to a Crock-Pot. Then, add in the pumpkin puree and cinnamon sticks. Next and most importantly, cook it in the Crock-Pot for a few hours. Lastly, pour the warm beverage into your desired drink receptacle, a mug is best in my opinion, and enjoy! You can add a cinnamon stick into the mug as garnish if you are feeling a bit fancy. For precise directions on preparation, you can check out the full recipe on the website.

5. London Fog

Lastly, we have another one for the tea drinkers out there. The London Fog is one of the staple winter beverage recipes and it definitely does the trick on a cold winter morning. According to the Tea Cup Of Life website, the ingredients you will need to make this at home are earl gray tea bags or loose leaf tea, boiling water, milk, and your sweetener of choice such as honey or sugar. First bring water to boil, then drop in a few bags of earl gray tea and let them steep for about five minutes, froth some milk on the stove or with a specialized milk frother, combine the tea and milk into a mug, and top it all off by mixing in some sweetener, I prefer honey in mine. Local honey not only makes it taste good, but it also can help alleviate seasonal allergies, which can be consistent and stubborn in the winter months. Plus, by purchasing local honey, you are helping to support your local businesses! If you want to follow step-by-step directions and get precise measurements for all of the ingredients listed to create the perfect London Fog, then you can head over to the Tea Cup Of Life website for all of that information as well as other winter beverage recipes.
